I think they're usually armed by accelerometer + timer: acceleration sustained above a minimum rate for more than a minimum amount of time guarantees a minimum velocity and distance.

As a sidebar: Why does Jane's always seem to have access to, and openly share, information which is likely classified?

I know someone in the US Air Force who would frequently use Jane's as a source for foreign weapons capabilities for his briefings, because they had more information than he had access to through government channels!
