GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, MI -- An Ottawa County diversity group is claiming that a Grand Haven area man's political statement -- a lawn chair hanging from a tree -- is racially insensitive and should be taken down.

Leaders of the Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance have scheduled a "community conversation" public meeting next Thursday at the Grand Haven Community Center to discuss the issue.

The lawn chair is suspended by a rope from a tree along Comstock Street near Peach Plain Elementary School and, according to the homeowner, is simply a take-off on Clint Eastwood's much-ballyhooed "empty chair rant" speech at the Republican National Convention where Eastwood was pretending to talk to President Barack Obama.

They’re not freaked out by nooses. It’s just an effective way to get self-hating whites to jump through hoops.

I have no idea if this is or ever was true or not, but when we were kids we were told by our parents that it was against the law to tie a rope into a noose. So of course we all learned how to tie a noose. But we never left one laying around, because we really did believe it was illegal. I hadn't thought about this for the last 40 years until now!

"Remember when the word “Militia” conjured up visions of patriotism and honor?"

Oh, who cares, the word's been redefined; let's go with it. /s

According to Snopes, it isn’t illegal, although some folks on their forum say their parents taught them the same thing as yours, LOL.

If the only tool you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail. If the only tool you have is a the race card, every sound starts to sound like a dog whistle.

Yep - my mind kept going to places that make the connection - shoes, empty suits, chairs, cars, sneakers, eyeglasses - anything a Black may use or come in contact with will become racist as and when they decide it's convenient for it to be racist.
