The decisions by Campbell Soup Co. and Comcast Corp. to eliminate hundreds of California jobs rekindled the debate about the state's business climate and forced Gov. Jerry Brown and others to leap to the state's defense.
The announcements put state officials in familiar yet uncomfortable territory, having to explain why an employer was closing shop in California.
Never mind that both companies said the business climate didn't drive their decisions. Even though California's job growth surpasses the U.S. average, the state remains susceptible to the charge that it's an inhospitable land of high taxes and red tape.
Friday brought more fuel to the fire. Vision Service Plan, the eye-care insurer based in Rancho Cordova, said it's putting 150 new jobs on hold until a dispute with state regulators gets resolved. VSP, which employs 2,100 people in Sacramento, had already hinted it might leave the state because of the dispute. State officials said last week they are working to placate VSP.
Still, it was Campbell's announcement Thursday that struck a particularly deep nerve.
The shutdown of the plant on Franklin Boulevard in south Sacramento will eliminate 700 blue-collar jobs and mark the end of an old-line manufacturer the type of employer that struggles in California, . . .

Com’On Cali, what did you expect, morons!
Sacramento has been living in a bubble while rest of the state flounders. This is bringing the problem close to home which the political elites don’t like.
We just had Sikorsky announce the closure of their military helicopter delivery facility in Elmira NY this week..570 out at Christmas...UAW workers...
“Never mind that both companies said the business climate didn’t drive their decisions.”
Actually at first Comcast did:
Earlier in the day, citing the state’s “high cost of doing business,” a regional Comcast official said the company’s Natomas, Livermore and Morgan Hill call centers will be shuttered on Nov. 30. Overall, about 1,000 jobs will be relocated to existing centers in Portland, Seattle and Denver.
But hours later, after state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, and the Governor’s Office interceded, Comcast backtracked, saying its initial reasons were “incorrect.”

There's the lie.
" "Comcast arrived at this decision after thoughtfully and methodically studying the market and our potential options," said Andrew Johnson, regional vice president of Comcast California, in a statement Tuesday morning.
"We determined that the high cost of doing business in California makes it difficult to run cost-effective call centers in Northern California."

We have been living in California since I was born in 1955. Back then we were the envy of the world. Many Nobel science awards came out of our universities. We built roads and bridges without complaints from creepozoid envirowackos. We fed half the world; now we save snail darters and parch the inland orchards and farms. Ronaldus Magnus became Governor, and showed us the way. For much of our lives we lived in what the native Indians called heaven. It is still the most incredible place to live, and perhaps all the wackos now in charge (Moonbeam, democRAT legislature) will be an example for the rest of the nation on just how NOT to perform. It used to be said that many things would begin in California, and then spread East. Perhaps now we will be the last vestige of insane social enviro engineering. Pray and work hard. While I may not be able to vote for a local right, thinking American, I can make calls to Ohio and Florida, walk precincts virtually, and make sure that Obambi and his evil ways no longer parch the entire national landscape. They say the pendulum swings; lets give it a mighty shove towards the founding of this country. There are still many more of us then there are of them. They have to lie, cheat and steal to stay in power. No More.

Good old Jerry Brown talks to his dog Sutter....
“Well, Sutter, it looks like companies are leaving the state and taking the jobs with them. How am I gonna explain this?”
“Woof!”
“That’s it, Sutter! We’ll blame it on the Swallows. They fly back to Capistrano and scare everyone! Sure! Why didn’t I think of that? Swallows....big Swallows.....huge swallows the size of 747s.....yeah.”
“”We just had Sikorsky announce the closure of their military helicopter delivery facility in Elmira NY this week..570 out at Christmas...UAW workers...””
I hadn’t heard that. My great niece’s husband found work there after he resigned his Army commission and is now getting ready for his 3rd deployment to Afghanistan with his Reserve unit. They were understanding enough to give him the time off for his reserve responsibilities but this will sure mess things up again for him. Took him a long time to find work after he got out.
He flew Apaches and his reserve unit in Syracuse didn’t have them but a unit in PA did so he transferred only to see the unit get called up in a matter of weeks after transfering.
Sad for everyone involved. I wouldn’t believe he would be a member of any union.........
My Nephew flies Blackhawks and my Niece flies Chinooks...He has 400+ combat missions, she was just named Commander on her vehicle...
I want them both home...
