I fled California in 1979, when I was in my late 20s. I will NEVER go back there to live, and will ONLY go there in the future for family events (yes, I still have some family there, but likely not for long).

Same here. It was a cesspool even then, full of serial killers and run by Jerry Brown and Rose Bird. It was so unsafe I didn’t dare let my wife go to the market by herself after dusk. Their environmental regs required us to put strange smog devices on our cars that wrecked them. It was a freaking toilet and hasn’t gotten any better. And the fools even brought back Brown.
