I wish that were true everywhere. But in the Country of Sri Lanka, that has not been the case.

I think it's wrong to say Buddhist nationalism. The thing is that the people of Sri Lanka are divided into two people -- the Sinhalese, descendents of people who came from Bihar (northern India, where the Buddha lived and was born) and Tamils who are Dravidian people who come from around Madras and were mostly brought there during British rule
The Tamils are Hindus or Moslems (mostly Hindu) and the Sinhalese are mainly Buddhists with some Christians.
So Buddhism is wrapped up with Sinhalese nationality.
