Ahead of the first debate, top journalists and commentators agree on one thing: Mitt Romney needs to shake up the race fast with an aggressive, confident performance on Wednesday night.
The reporters and pundits from across the political spectrum with whom POLITICO spoke leading up to the kick-off of the presidential debate season say theyre expecting Romney to come out strong against President Barack Obamas economic policies and his leadership style over the past four years. They say the Republican nominee needs to create a dramatic moment on the national stage but the medias expectation that Romney can pull that off is muted.

Besides, the "Romney lost the debate" articles have already been written.
If Obama breaks down sobbing and runs off stage, then Romney will have won. Otherwise, I’m afraid it’s hopeless ...
If we are looking to the Pravda Press for any kind of resonation that Mitt won ANYTHING, simply go home. Even if Obama ends up in the fetal position, the media will laud his performance as ‘masterful’.
Serious guestion. Why the hell does anyone on this forum pay any attention to what politico has to say about anything? What are we? Gluttons for punishment? Masochists?
Dayum.
Hear you! Politico makes Pravda and Izvestia look like mid western Sunday weeklies.
Frankly, I'm surprised the Pravda Press hasn't already published those.
Every day, the Obama media claims that Romney has or will do something to lose the election.
Stop listening or reading the Obama media. All of those people who stood in line at Chick-fil-A are going to vote. I doubt if any of them have been polled.
Because far too many conservatives love to feel like losers.
and that there is some sort of “fix” that will always get them.
Once again, the lame-stream is overplaying their hand. In 2000 they portrayed W as a complete idiot and Bore as the brainy one. So in the debates, all W had to do was to be competent, and he exceeded expectations.
They’ve done much the same thing in 2012. We have all been told how brilliant Zero is. Problem is, we have seen what happens when he goes ‘off prompter’. And he has never had a serious debate in his life, let alone been called out for anything. He is very thin-skinned, and if Mitt treats Zero as he did Gingrich, then we will see that come out.
Absolutely FANTASTIC line that Romney should use in the debates: THERE YOU GO AGAIN. Use it every time Zero lies. The press will be forced to mention Reagan and show clips from the Reagan/Carter.
And also a great republican commercial: go back and get Reagan’s speeches attacking Carter about the economy and foreign policy. Those speeches are NOT McCainisms. Reagan did not pull any punches regarding Carter, and those speeches are every bit as relevant today.
Self flagellation is an activity I never fancied much. On my list of ‘Things to do’, it isn’t. Quoth the Jedi, “Nevermore.”
If Obama breaks down sobbing and runs off stage, then the media will report it as
ABC News: "Caveman Politics: Americans Like Their Presidents Tall"
(This was probably written before ABC received their marching orders from the Obama campaign!)
Human beings are visual creatures, so I doubt it. Romney will be one-up on Zero before he even opens his mouth. He's taller, frankly much better looking than 0bama and just looks more "presidential". Compare and contrast with this ("Let-me-guide-you-to-your-wheelchair-old-man") kind of image:
If Romney sounds more coherent, poised and less-tongue tied than 0bama, that's just icing on the cake.
“Absolutely FANTASTIC line that Romney should use in the debates: THERE YOU GO AGAIN.”
THAT would be about the LAST thing I would suggest for Romney. All it would accomplish is to make him look like a weak imitation of Reagan and he would be pilloried for it.
I've said this before and I'll say it again....I believe Obama has a bug in his ear....maybe an implant behind his ear????
Pay attention....see how many times he touches his head....and also the timing of his ahs...uhs...
I already have the next mornings’ headline:
“Romney falls short of expectations”
Story:
“Mitt Romney needed to hit one out of the park but failed to do so and now the election is over and Obama won and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah ..............”
Last night on the CBS (?) news, Kerry was claiming Mitt was practicing and practicing for the debate whereas hussein simply didn’t have the time. Funny part was, right after the Kerry video the reporter went on to say hussein was busy campaigning.
Wishful thinking? Isn't Zero the one with the reputation for an extremely thin skin?
[THERE YOU GO AGAIN. Use it every time Zero lies.]
WORSE thing he could say, imo.
O: “There you Republican’s go again...living in the past, no new ideas, no new messages and stale old reused rhetoric”
O: “(laughing) You can tell when your opponent has nothing new to offer, when he has to resort to ‘witticisms’ from a long past president”
etc...etc.
