It's difficult to understate the importance of Lockheed Martin's latest announcement on the race for the White House: the defense contractor said on Monday it will not be issuing employee layoff notices to 123,000 workers on Nov. 2just four days before the presidential election.
Amidst all of the super PACs and campaign ads, the threat of telling a sizable chunk of voters in key areas of the country that they could lose their jobs if the election didn't go Lockheed's way was one of the most potent examples of corporate electioneering. But the layoff threat was largely unreported outside of Beltway trade publications.
Overall, it goes without saying that the president dodged a major bullet with today's announcement, and the Romney campaign missed out an a huge opportunity to win over jittery Virginia voters.

The thing is, if Obama is elected, he is going to do these cuts, he said so.
So they are breaking the law.
The Lockheed employees must know they’re being used by Obama, this could backfire bigtime.
If Obama wins they could still get laid off, only they will get no notice and can’t sue the company.
There is no law or truth anymore in what used to be the USA. If the media isn’t held accountable then those who govern are no longer held accountable.
Of course they know what is going on. This does nothing to help obama and I would suspect there are more than a few Lockheed employees who are mad as hell. Lockheed as much as told them they are going to be laid off, there just won’t be an ‘announcement’...and why.

While this is an obvious attempt to rig the election, I rather suspect Lockheed, etc. employees are very savvy folks and most of them probably know perfectly well they are on the layoff list... and that the pink slips WILL be forthcoming on November 7th.
I mean, defense contractor employees are not stupid people... if they vote to re-elect a man who openly avows his commitment to weaken America’s defenses.... well, they just aren’t that stupid.

The Lockheed employees just need to give him some time until after the election, when he has more flexibility to eliminate their jobs.

How can the employees know what’s going on? There is apparently no need to have a plan until after the election. There is no way to know what programs or who will be cut. The employees’ voting decisions are back to politics, not job-based, which is what obamma wanted.
Now is when the House could start hearings and raise media attention about this illegal and immoral act. The media will spin it that the House is politiking, but if the House had a spine, they’d do it for moral reasons.
Lock-Mart will wait until just before Christmas to announce the layoffs. I’m sure Sheik Obomba will be fine with that.

These numbers are compiled from PAC donations and from individual donations by people who are employed by the company in question. It's fairly obvious that the heavy hitters are donating to both Øbozo and Willard (&Oshas;bozo with a slight lead). I would wager if I was to do a more in-depth search, I'd find a whole bunch of smaller donations to RuPaul...chances are from lower level employees.

Well, let's see ... You and I are posting here on this thing called the internet, and there are already stories all over the place about Lockheed Martin's plan to eliminate 123,000 jobs. Don't you think at least a few employees of Lockheed Martin also have access to the internet -- and just might be asking themselves if they are among the 123,000 that are going to be laid off?
yes they are breaking the law but obama’s administration told them the “government” will pay their fines
of course the people fired after the election, on short notice, will be told it is because of republican obstructionism
any contractor employee who doesn’t see through this move by obama and who votes democrat, is too stupid to stay employed. Kinda like coal miners and oil workers who vote

Theres a kind of group-think in large organizations. People in large organizations do things that they, as individuals, would never do. An example is the GM decision not to spend a dollar per car on the Corvaire to prevent rollovers because the estimated money saved exceeded the estimated money paid in lawsuits. People tend to do what they are rewarded for and they want the approval of those who grant their bonuses.
Having said that, if they had sent out 25k notices to the people they would lay off those 25k mostly wouldnt vote for Obama. But now, the total 125k employees dont know whether theyll be included in the layoff so a greater number may vote against Obama. As another poster said, backfire, bigtime!
Hey Lockheed employees. You know hussein will back defense cuts, massive defense cuts, if he is elected. He just told your management to break the law and keep you in the dark. He is going to pay their legal costs to fight you in court. Does that sound like someone you want to back, like someone you want in control of your destiny? I think husseins announcement just backfired and lost him the vote of every single defense worker and their families.

By making the announcement they informed the employees of the impending lay offs and saved themselves the cost of issuing the paper notices. The political results will likely be the same as if formal paper notices were issued.
It makes one wonder about waiving laws. It makes one wonder if laws protecting the President can just be waived?
When I worked for that company, the division I worked in was merged with a different one and Ms. Linda Gooden became our executive VP. I was laid off 6 months after she took over. When she took over, she implemented a policy where if you took vacation, you were expected to make up that same amount of time in unpaid overtime. She also cracked down on dress code as well. She likes to pay surprise visits to catch people off guard. She visited Colorado one time and she had people sent home for wearing jeans ! Word also got out that each employee is expected to work 5 to 10 hours of casual overtime each week. She also cracked down on flex time as well. Use to be the parking lots were empty on Friday afternoon but they are now full even to 5 pm Friday. Before most people would work their hours earlier in the week. I even see the parking lots sometimes filled on Saturdays too.
One thing about Ms. Gooden, she is a big Obama supporter.
Obama has promised to cover any costs associated with the failure to give employees 60 days notice of termination. He DID NOT promise to stop the layoffs.
This allows Lockheed to issue IMMEDIATE terminations to thousands of employees after the election.
If I was employed by Lockheed, Obama’s promise would scare me to death, & make me very angry.

Yes, this is very bad. If there’s no slip telling you that YOU are laid off, you don’t think it happens to you or your program. You may suspect it, but there’s just not enough information to change your mind to take your vote from 0bama. You may even blame BOehner or look to 0bama for unemployment $$$.
Something like this is how Dems chip away at the swing states and win - a lesson learned from Nixon and IL in 1960.
And it should be an easy tactic to knock down in this case, by Congress, or by Romney - the fact that 0bama is taking contractors’ “right” (by law, for what its worth) to be notified of losing their jobs 60 days in advance.

Regardless of your nifty little graphic, I have been in the Defense Industry my entire life and it is overwhelmingly conservative. Of course you will find a few libs here and there - especially in the DC Area, NJ, and CA. However, the industry as a while is a reflection of the military, which is leans to the right as well.
Of course they do. A lot of them are members of the IAM-AW, layoffs are by seniority. BTW, where is the union in all of this? (I know of where I speak - I retired from Lockheed Martin after 21 years of service.)
My wife works for LM. You’re right, all employees know what’s going on. LM management has been in communication on this issue for at least the last 6 months.
You know who doesn’t know about this? The local businesses supported by those employees’ salaries. They are the actual target of Obama’s obfuscation tactic.
He doesn’t want Virginians in general knowing about the 125k employee reduction.
Raytheon was a major sponsor for the 2004 DNC Convention.
Don’t forget, Murtha was a Dem and basically ruled the appropriation process (along with Jerry Lewis)
My son works for LM here in Texas. His dept. was told weeks ago that WARN layoff notices would be going out Nov. 1st. It’s not a secret. They even know how many in their dept. will be cut.
I was an IAM member and Union Steward for awhile. I used to go to the Union Meetings and grouse at them for not supporting Republicans. Man those were tough meetings. Here I was with the Socialist and I was a conservative!
So what. We in the industry know that Raytheon is the primary left leaning contractor. The industry as a whole leans right.
The employees in the defense industry are mostly conservative, agreed. However, the companies themselves are very pragmatic. When Dems run Congress, they will contribute more to Dems than the GOP. And vise versa.
They do what they need to get money appropriated. Sorry if that bursts any bubbles out there.
Sad thing is, the line workers, the UNION line workers, vote democrat regardless.

Lockmart. I’m retired from there. They know, and they also
know that Obama is basically threatening the company mgnt.
Lockheed is in a no win situation, the company and the
workers are screwed. Besides WARN act, I’ve heard it also
may violate RICO and that unlawful aggrements cannot be
enforced if there is a change in the political winds.
