The teacher arrested on suspicion of abducting 15-year-old Sussex schoolgirl Megan Stammers has agreed to be extradited to the UK.
Jeremy Forrest, 30, from Ringmer, East Sussex, was arrested in Bordeaux, France, on Friday, more than a week after the pair went missing.
He appeared before the Court of Appeal in the port city at the start of formal extradition proceedings.
The court is expected to give his extradition the go-ahead on Thursday.
Mr Forrest and Megan, from Eastbourne, had travelled to France on 20 September but failed to use return ferry tickets three days later.
Mr Forrest's British lawyer Phil Smith said: "Now that he has agreed to be extradited to the UK, we look forward to the full story emerging.
