..........Helping the poor and disenfranchised get an ID is much broader than simply voting; it is giving them the documentation necessary to both navigate and participate in 21st-century society.
Currently, a valid ID is needed to cash a check, apply for working papers, apply for a marriage license, apply for a mortgage, fly on a plane, get a credit card, buy a car, rent a car, rent an apartment, rent a post office box, buy alcohol, cigarettes, a gun, take out student loans, take out home equity loans, leave the country, get back into the country, get car insurance, get life insurance, get home-owner's insurance, etc. One would think those interested in empowering the poor and disenfranchised -- those interested in helping struggling people better their lives -- would do everything they could to help those in need secure a valid ID.
Yet, interestingly, people like Annette John-Hall rail against voter ID and all its transformative benefits. Instead of pouring their energy into getting the needy up to speed, they spend their time trumpeting why the poor (and the young, and the old, and students, and minorities) can't comply. It's just too hard. These people engage in laborious studies on why a minute group of Americans can't overcome basic challenges, like the Brennan Center for Justice's report "The Challenge of Obtaining Voter Identification." How much money was spent on this report, and more importantly, how many thousands of IDs could have been acquired and given to indigent Americans in its place?
The Brennan Center claims that the ID laws are "restrictive." John-Hall calls the ID laws "suppressive." Others, like the Inquirer, compare the laws to Jim Crow and insist that they amount to the equivalent of a "poll tax."

It’s about ILLEGAL voting.
It’s ALL ABOUT illegal voting.
It’s ONLY about illegal voting.
NOTHING ELSE at all.
A friend of mine in Utah had a woman in a much smaller car hit him from behind in his truck at a stop sign.
The woman was Mexican—she barely spoke any English—and her 2 kids had to be her interpreter. Her car was pretty messed up & he had very minor damage.
She insisted on calling the cops. He complied.
It turns out that the DRIVER’S LICENSE that she presented to my friend was issued in Utah and clearly states on it : NOT TO BE USED FOR ID!!!!
How could this woman get a driver’s license under the Patriot Act without a birth certificate?
I had to give a proper birth certificate, my old driver’s license, and 2 or 3 other items of ID before I could get my driver’s license in Nevada when I moved here 7 ++ years ago.
Why is ANY state giving out driver’s licenses that don’t have the same requirements that we have here in Nevada under the Patriot Act??? Why can you have a DRIVER’S LICENSE and NOT be able to use such document for ID?
The woman did present insurance evidence, tho. But her car is probably totalled. Gotta love driving our trucks!!
For the money and time spent wringing hands over ‘they don’t have any way to get ID’, it would be easier & cheaper to set up kiosks in grocery stores & banks & have the state issue ID’s for a nominal fee—or free.
Then we can get a better feeling about voter fraud.
Since the people complaining that people cannot get ID are doing NOTHING to help set up a system to get ID & they are not volunteering to serve such a system, they are truly part of the problem-—they are not part of the solution. They will sit for hours in the rain outside of a grocery store to REGISTER people to vote—without asking for ID, but they will NOT do the same to get people a proper ID in the first place.
They wish to continue the voter fraud which is occurring.
I am really tired of hearing on local TV ‘that there is no evidence of voter fraud’.
They don’t have their eyes open at all.
It’s called a “driving privilege card”. Our illustrious idiots in our state legislature decided it would be “safer” to give illegals some form of driving ID, but in order to conform with federal Real ID guidelines, it has to be different from the actual Utah drivers license, and has to read “not to be used for ID.” In order to get a real UT DL you do have to jump through all the hoops you mentioned for getting a Nevada DL. These need practically nothing. So your friend was hit by an illegal. I don’t know why they don’t just arrest everyone coming into DMV and applying for these cards, since they’re admitting they’re in the country illegally, but that’s just me. It’s made Utah a magnet for Arizona’s illegal population as AZ has been cracking down. And our political idiots can’t seem to understand why our crime rates are increasing and our school test scores are plummeting.
Democrats are realizing that the only way now to take the White House again is through vote fraud.
Obama to make push for early voting in Wisconsin
7:14 a.m. CDT, October 4, 2012
President Barack Obama will fire-up his Democratic base during a rally Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he’s expected to urge his supporters to vote early.
Obama won Wisconsin by 14 points in 2008, an easy win in a state where 1-in-5 ballots came in before Election Day.
That’s very telling. They must believe that Wisconsin is in play. If that is so November 6 will be a great day for GOP.
