I thought not paying your taxes wasn’t such a big deal.

Of course, it would be very hypocritical of the democrats and the MSM to make any points about Akin paying income his income taxes late, while many of these same people turned a blind eye to the fact that the current secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner, was allowed to be confirmed without much of a fuss by the press and the dems even though he was an actual tax evader.

It sounds like Akin, at least paid up, even if somewhat belatedly. However, I don't recall Geithner and company ever having to pay their tax tab back before being allowed to serve as the Secretary of the Treasury. Not to mention the clear moral conflict of having a likely, if not proven, tax cheater managing the Treasury Department. Hmmm. What could possibly go wrong?

I had the privelege of paying taxes (federal and state) in 2011 on roughly $10,000 in "income" that I never saw. It was a paper gain on a real estate investment.

Unfortunately, I was the one who lit the fire. When I discovered it, I filed amended tax returns May 15, 2012; paid the associated taxes, interest and penalties.

That ignited a sh@tstorm that is apparently never going to end.

Next time, I will just wait until the Gestapo finds me.

This isn’t IRS-related. These are voluntary disclosures to the public. AP was giving him a hard time about not disclosing just north of 10 G’s in annual pension income. Real petty stuff that reflects badly on AP. Nothing like Rezko handing a several hundred G bribe to Obama.

The purpose of the disclosure forms is so that the public can know where a politician is getting his money from, and whether he's using his political office for personal gain (like awarding government contracts to businesses that pay him money). Pension income is irrelevant to that purpose.

“Todd Akin failed to report state pension income”

And how does this compare to ObamaClaire’s husband profiting off of the Obummer spending bills ObamaClaire voted for?

What’s next, Akin caught on videotape jaywalking?

I think the good voters of Missouri can figure out who is doing more damage to the republic and Akin will come out on top of that analysis.

Not looking good for Mr. Akin, unfortunately.

Oooh, you're right...if he'd just not paid taxes on this income, it would be a resume enhancer. Like for the Dim's, right?

Much ado about nothing.

On this issue however, McCaskill getting a $40,000/yr Missouri pension??? for what???

Why aren't these "retired" politicians required to wait until 65 to start collecting like the rest of the plebeians who pay their salary???

Unlike McCaskill who, if I recall correctly, didn't pay property tax on an airplane or something.

Not only that, she leased her airplane to the gubmint so every time she used it for "official business" she got a charge-back!
