Iran’s Supreme Leader: Iranians Not to Surrender to Pressures
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said that sanctions and pressures cannot force the Iranian nation to surrender since Iranians are strong and always overcome problems.
Addressing a group of young Iranian elites here in Tehran on Wednesday, the Leader pointed to the different sanctions and pressures imposed by enemies against the country during the last 33 years since the victory of the Islamic Revolution (1979), and noted that the Iranian nation has always withstood pressures and grown more powerful.
“During the last 33 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been faced with a wide range of different political, security, military and economic pressures and sanctions, but the Iranian nation has defused these pressures and even grown more powerful through its resistance,” said the Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that growing pressures against the Iranian nation are mainly aimed at making the nation surrender, “but the Iranian nation has and will never surrender to pressures and this has made the enemy furious.”
The Leader further said that the Iranian nation will overcome the harsh conditions through reliance on its natural wealth and talented people.
Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West’s calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.
Tehran has dismissed the West’s demand as politically tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians’ national resolve to continue the path.
Political observers believe that the United States has remained at loggerheads with Iran mainly over the independent and home-grown nature of Tehran’s nuclear technology, which gives the Islamic Republic the potential to turn into a world power and a role model for the other third-world countries.
Iran is on the verge of chaos. The truth is the sanctions, which Obama initially opposed, are working. They are working at least to collapse their economy. Their currency resembles something form the Weimar Republic in the late 1920s. It may only be weeks away from a total collapse. The question is, what happens when there are riots in the streets on Tehran?
Iran is having huge riots and demonstrations partially because the resources of the nation are being used to develop atomic weapons. It may have to suspend development for a while because of financial problems.
