Matalin to Krugman: ‘You’re Hardly Credible on Calling Someone Else a Liar’
National Review Online ^ | October 7, 2012 | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 10/07/2012 11:22:55 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

In the roundtable discussion on This Week, Peggy Noonan’s analysis of last week’s debate lead to a heated exchange between Paul Krugman and Mary Matalin.

“We will look back on it as a historic moment in this election,” Noonan said of the debate. “It upended things. This is what it it upended: Barack Obama was supposed to be the sort of moderate, centrist fellow who looked at Mitt Romney, this extreme strange fellow. By the time that debate was over, Mitt Romney seemed a completely moderate, centrist figure who showed up as mitt Romney the governor, not as Mitt Romney the candidate.”

“Except that everything he used to prove his centrism wasn’t true,” retorted Krguman.

When Noonan called that criticism “unjust,” Krugman responded, ““When you say my plan covers pre-existing conditions when it doesn’t, and when your own campaign has admitted in the past that it doesn’t, what do you say? That’s amazing.”

At that point, Matalin told Krugman, “You have mischaracterized and you have lied about every position and every particular of the Ryan Plan on medicare from the efficiency of Medicare administration to calling it a voucher plan, so you’re hardly credible on calling someone else a liar.”

And when a liberal brings up, “He has a Nobel Prize in Economics” like it’s some sort of defense for Krugman, I just point out that Yassir Arafat has a Nobel Prize for peace, and he deployed hundreds of suicide bombers to kill men, women and children.

The Nobel Committee is five knuckleheads from Norway, with an inordinate ability to impress dimwitted American leftists.

That has as much value as The Nobel committee awarding an unaccomplished affirmitive action POTUS a Peace Prize less than a month after he was inaugaurated.

Become famaliar with Fifth Columnists in America:

Krugman, Paul

Fifth Columnists: A group of people who act traitorously and subversively out of a secret sympathy with an enemy of their country. Originally refers to Franco sympathizers in Madrid during the Spanish Civil War: so called in allusion to a statement in 1936 that the insurgents had four columns marching on Madrid and a fifth column of sympathizers in the city ready to rise and betray it.

Useful Idiots: Sympathizers, Apologists, and Propagandists for the implementation of Socialism/Communism into Western Countries like the United States, who are actually held in contempt and are being cynically used by Socialist/Communist Leaders.

Running Dogs: A manipulable, servile follower who is a lackey for those who are trying to implement Socialism/Communism into Western Countries like the United States.

No the Nobel Prize in Economics is a legitimate prize.
It's awarded from the SWEDISH Nobel committee that awards Nobel prizes for the Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, etc). It's not very old started in 1968.

The Nobel Peace Prize is as you said done by knuckleheads in Norway.

I have had several friends who are practicing economists (Conservative and not necessarily in academia!) who say Krugman is legitimate on a certain narrow area of international trade. I am not an economists by academic training and I have never cared enough to educate myself on why on this subtopic of economics Krugman is not a crackpot Rat ideologue. So I take their word that Krugman is legitmate on a narrow sliver of disciplined intellectual thought.

Yeah, and when Krugman expresses an opinion about business siting decisions (the area for which he got his Nobel in Economics) I will give him due attention and defer to his expertise. However, his opinions on macro-economic policy seem to have less basis in fact than my own and his policy prescriptions based on them appear to be materially harmful to the interests of the United States and the world economy.

He is as useless in the area of macro-economic policy, despite being an economist, as I am in the area of analytic number theory, despite my being a professional mathematician. Of course, were I to get a swelled head and start making ill-founded assertions about the Riemann conjecture, it wouldn’t potentially have a harmful effect on our economy, society, and civilization, the way Krugman’s inflated self-opinion about his macro-economic expertise could.

“....start making ill-founded assertions about the Riemann conjecture, it wouldn’t potentially have a harmful effect on our economy, society, and civilization,....”

This statement reminds of a cartoon my grad school daughter sent me.
First Panel shows biologists and says, “Whoops we're wrong!”, next panel says .”Millions die from world wide plague!”. Another panel shows chemists and says, “Whoops we're wrong!”, next panel says ,”Thousands die from giant explosion!”. The next set of panels shows physicists and says, “Whoops we're wrong!”, the following panel shows the world disappearing into a black hole. The last set of panels show mathematicians and says “Whoops we're wrong!”, next panel says “ Great now I have to buy Fenster donuts for a week !”

Here's another that expresses my respect for mathematicians

I think what you guys do is so cool !
