Has Obama’s anti-Israel agenda made Israel unimportant to U.S. Jews?

With American elections only weeks away, relations between Israel and the United States have become a key issue in the campaign.

President Obama cannot hide how strained the relations really are between him and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Obama’s dislike of Netanyahu is as clear as his love for the Muslim call to prayer, as he noted in his 2009 Cairo speech, when he called it the "sweetest sound on earth."

At a time when the Middle East is entering a storm of violence and turmoil, President Obama rejected the request to meet with the leader of the only true democracy and America's best friend in the region.

It should be said loud and clear that in almost four years of Obama’s administration, sanctions on Iran have not worked. Only today, Iran passed onto the Syrians $10 billion to aid its death campaign.

In fact, not only have sanctions not worked, Iran has actually increased the pace of its nuclear weapons program.

The only thing I don't agree with is that Obama is not going to hurt our relationship with Israel. I think he does hurt it. What he has done, the whole world sees. Israeli leaders should not give him a pass.

I do hope we can renew our support for Israel in January.

Obama’s dislike of Netanyahu is as clear as his love for the Muslim call to prayer ...

What most election observers don't realize, or would never express, is what informs the political division amongst American Jews. Most American Jews, the Orthodox in general being the exception, are not very religious or spiritual with respect to Israel or the G-d of Israel. Neither are they Zionists and cannot imagine giving up their creature comforts to make Aliyah and start over again as citizens of another country. Their ties with previous generations of Jews who were forced by historical oppression to change countries are far too tenuous. They experience guilt over their failure to measure up to their heritage. They want a way to ameliorate this guilt and being a "separate people" is a bit too difficult for them. Being loyal liberal Democrat party members is one path available. They can travel the world, distance themselves from Israel, conform to the socialist world order that barely tolerates Israel's existence, and if they must be activists is is so much safer to attack some more benign religion than Islam.

The majority of American Jews will support the Democrat Party until the orthodox community becomes the majority due to assimilation, intermarriage and differnt birthrates.

IMHO, American Jews have a long standing hostility towards Israel. Something I simply do not understand.

Indifference or hostility to Israel only exists among JINOs, not real Jews...just as only CINOs can support abortion.

And indifference or hostility to Romney only exists among RINOs ?

Definitions are a bit more complex than this, or are they ?

I, a Christian, love Israel more than most American Jews.
Sad.

Don't be sad; rejoice; you are only responsible for your own choices and earn your own rewards.

The American Jewish Committee poll of Florida Jews last month found that only 5% ranked US-Israel relations as ‘most important’, 9% as second most important, and 17% as third most important.

Its not quite the same. There are multiple Republicans from whom to choose, whereas there is only one Israel. Jews have prayed for close to 2,000 years for Israel to be re-established and for the Temple to be rebuilt - but I don’t notice too many Republicans with a religious interest in a particular candidate...in every single election.

To me (as a somewhat observant Jew) a JINO is someone who is Jewish by virtue of having a Jewish mother, but who neither believes in nor practices his or her faith (or precious little of it, anyway). Such a person might, for example, circumcize their son or hold a(n imitation) Passover Sedar, but doesn’t give a damn about the viability of Israel of his/her 6.5 million Jewish brethren that live there. To most JINOs, Judaism is an embarrassment. These people are almost universally liberal Democrats but, of course, there are many exceptions to this very broad observation.

Today's IBD/TIPP daily tracking poll shows 50/48 split among Jews for Obama/Romney with an asterix "*Small sample size. Interpret with caution."

I don't think it reasonable expect Obama to get 78% of the Jewish vote this time. If it is close to 50/50 that would shock the Democrat party.

Without proof that it has, I would say, no.

Democrats are Democrats first and formost. The Democrat Party is their god. The Democrat candidates are their prophets. Nothing else matters, the Democrat Party owns them;body and soul.

I'm not looking so much for a shock to the Dims, but for one or two states to switch columns because of the Jewish vote swing. I'm PRAYING for PA to be close enough that the lower Jewish Dim vote is the difference. In any case, Jewish vote or not, what I really want is for Obama to lose since he'll be a disaster for both Israel and the U.S.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say 55% of the Jews vote for Bathhouse Barry.
