Gallup: Romney scored biggest debate win in history
The Hill ^ | OCTOBER 8, 2012 | Christian Heinze

According to a new Gallup poll of those who watched last week's presidential debate, 72% picked Mitt Romney as the winner, while only 20% thought Barack Obama won.

That''s the biggest win in history, exceeding even Bill Clinton's 42% advantage in his townhall debate over George H.W. Bush (the one where Bush checked his watch).

The numbers on Romney vs. Obama reflect those of snap opinion polls.

According to Gallup, Republicans gave him a 95% win over Obama, Independents picked him, 70%-19%, and even Democrats thought Romney won, 49%-39%.

But does that really matter?

Yes, Gallup notes that in the three days following the debate, Romney erased a 5% deficit among registered voters to tie Obama, 47%-47%.

Going forward, everyone expects Obama to do much better in the second debate, but Joe Scarborough made an interesting point this morning.

The second tussle is a townhall debate, and that puts some natural constraints on Obama's ability to attack. Audiences want you to focus on them and their questions for you; not on your opponent. They also expect a more personal affair -- one that's less friendly to being unfriendly.

One more thing to note: This morning marks the fifth since the first presidential debate wrapped up, and Morning Joe is opening yet again with a chat about the debate. That kind of staying power is fairly unprecedented in today's perpetually peripatetic news cycles.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching 0bama get his azz kicked. I’m thinking Biden will OVERCOMPENSATE for 0bama’s malaise and it will backfire BIGTIME. Biden doesn’t know how to be gracefully aggressive, but Ryan does. That’s Ryan’s natural style. Get ready for the ‘Biden makes an azz out of himself’ show.

I believe that Obama really has a tin ear for such things. I suspect he may over-react and go after Romney in a way which is a turn-off in a town hall format.

Furthermore, I heard this morning that it was the most watched debate since Reagan/Carter.

No wonder the Obama team is escalating their attacks that Romney is a liar.

What other debate was as much of a rout?

The only other debate that I can remember that was a rout was the vice presidential debate between Dan Quayle and Al Gore in 1992. Quayle cleaned Gore's clock, but the news media seems to have forgotten that one.

Although I’m no fan of Romney’s record, from a campaign standpoint I very much appreciate it when the person at the top of the ticket steps up and delivers like Romney did last week. He’s energized everything from the top down by popping the media bubble they created for all of us. For that I respect him.

Unfortunately, today`s Gallup has Obama back up +5 at 50-45. Looks like the juiced jobs numbers blunted Romney`s gains.

I guess Mark Twain's assertion stating, “Don’t argue (or debate) with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience,” needs an addendum - “unless that idiot is Barack Hussein Obama”.

Going forward, everyone expects Obama to do much better in the second debate,

Everyone! That's what it says, everyone!

Ubama's shtick is to lie about Romney and create E.D.! ENVY and DIVISION! Romney needs to go after MILLIONAIRE Barack Ubama. Present it to the people, which "millionaire" do you want in office! The millionaire that can TALK about "HOPE we can get out of the financial mess" or the candidate with a proven track record of getting out of financial messes.

Romney will need to present the facts of who he is not who the media and Hollywood libs have created!

Romney destroyed the socialist Obama.

I have seen what Chavez has done in Venezuela. This is the exact thing that will happen in the U.S.A if Obama is reelected: tanks in the street, no food in stores , oppressing , rigged elections, etc.

This is socialism: When the federal government owns everything then it has absolute power. Anyone that supports Obama is an idiot and you will end up an oppressed starving slave as is happening in Venezuela, and every communist/socialist nation that ever existed. capitalism and the free market allow competing interests, individual ownership, socialism doesn't and so power in concentrated in the government( Obama). Also the free market actually works and socialism doesn't work and is very inefficient so that people starve and everything is rationed and government idiots decide who gets what.

What we need to do is limit government : everything that the free market can do then leave government out of it . that includes education, cell phones, healthcare and mostly everything else except foreign policy and keeping things out of the country ( like illegals). We don't need government schools , we don't need the EPA, TSA, FEC, IRS , Dept of energy, etc. If there is a need like communication then capitalism will create it where it is needed and in the most efficient manner possible ( for example cell phones) ok? government doesn't need to be involved in that , we can educate our own kids or buy some solution in the free market be it online classes, home schooling or private schools so we don't need government schools which are a failure as everything the gov does is..

People are unemployed all over the U.S.A. . The media however creates an alternate false reality where everything is fine.

Romney did great in the debate. Romney destroyed the marxist POS Obama. It was the first time we sew the real Romney and the Real Obama and some of the real situation in the U.S..

I would have told Obama, “Apologize now to the American people for ruining the American dream, Destroying the greatest country in the world, with 6 trillion in debt , lowest workforce participation in history and with your socialist policies that you are forcing on the American people which the media hides.” Apologize and resign or tell us how 6 trillion that you added in debt to U.S. will not destroy this country, 6 trillion in debt that you gave to your campaign donors like Solyndra, etc.” Resign now for your going around Congress, abusing power when decreeing Amnesty for illegals , a million of them to take more jobs away from Americans. I call on Congress now to impeach Obama for abusing power with these zcars, with Solyndra, with passing the Dream act by himself without Congress, fas and furious” Hope Romney hits this POS Obama with that

Romney destroyed that pos Obama in the first debate :If it were a football game it would have been Romney 76 Obama 0
