President Barack Obama holds 30-point lead over Republican Mitt Romney in Massachusetts, poll finds
The Republican ^

Posted on 10/08/2012 1:38:59 PM PDT by matt04

Democratic President Barack Obama’s lead over Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is growing in Massachusetts, and is now up to 30 points, according to a new poll conducted by the Western New England University Polling Institute for The Republican and MassLive.com.

The poll, conducted Sept. 28 - Oct. 4, finds Obama getting support from 63 percent of likely Massachusetts voters compared to 33 percent for Romney, with 3 percent undecided. The poll does not take into account the impact of the first presidential debate - in which Romney was widely viewed as the winner - since only one night of polling was done after that.

The results are not surprising. Though Romney is the former Massachusetts governor, he has consistently trailed Obama by double digits in his liberal-leaning home state. The bigger question is how the presidential race will affect the tight U.S. Senate race between Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and Democratic Harvard Law School professor Elizabeth Warren. The poll suggests that Obama’s growing lead does not necessarily give Warren an advantage. Since the last poll conducted for The Republican and MassLive.com on Sept. 6-13, Brown has actually picked up more Obama supporters than Warren has.

Warren is now getting support from 76 percent of likely voters who lean toward Obama, compared to 77 percent in September. Brown is getting support from 18 percent of Obama supporters, compared to 14 percent in September. (In both polls, Brown has gotten support from more than 90 percent of Romney supporters.)

It’s kinda a bad joke that Gore didn’t need Florida. All he had to do was win his home state.

It’s not surprising.

They also like Barney Frank, they kept electing the murderer Ted Kennedy. Now they have a fake indian running.
They also have the traitor John Kerry and they love the band-aid hero.

Massachusetts has some weird voters, and even more weird politicians.

I live in Massachusetts. A 30 point Obama victory here is simply not going to happen and you can take that to the bank. Bookmark this thread and ping me on November 7th!

I live in a heavily Democratic city. They even voted against Tisei after he got us funding for five new schools. Most of the members of my club are Democrats. Two are vocal for Obama. Everyone else EVEN THE POST OFFICE GUYS are quietly voting for Romney. I have not seen one Obama sign. But I have been seeing more “I’m Catholic and I Vote” bumper stickers.

I've actually seen more Romney signs than Obama signs, but not that many of either.

I've seen a lot more signs for the Senate race, where Brown is soundly beating Lieawatha. The Brown signs tend to turn up in the more middle class neighborhoods, whereas the Lieawatha signs are more likely to be found in more upscale neighborhoods, e.g., at this place, Zestimated to be worth $2,853,530.

My bet is Obama will get a lot of Massachusetts's one-percenters, and Romney will take a surprising share of the 47 percent.

I looked up the average on party affiliation in Mass.

Generally it is 35% dem 12% republican 53% independent/other

Of the 516 polled only 440 were likely voters

of thos 440 likely voters the breakdown was D170/R57/I203

I am not very good at figuring percentages but even just eyeballing this, it seems quite skewed towards the dems.

When you look at how heavily the Independent voters are breaking it seems these results are highly suspect. Take a look:

I noticed an interesting trend around my house in FL. Yards with Romney signs have other republican candidates as well or just Romney.

Yards with signs for Democrat candidates often don’t have Obama signs. It’s like they are embarrassed to admit they like the guy. I see Obama signs in random spots along the road, but not in yards too much.

Obama 62%, McCain 36%

You are correct.

Barney Frank won 68-25

I grew up in Newton, Mass. You have to have lived there to appreciate how twisted these people are. There is no possible way to use the printed word to describe it.

I agree.

In other news, Obama leads in polling of deceased voters.
