A Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report - "America the Vulnerable: Are Foreign and Fraudulent Online Campaign Contributions Influencing U.S. Elections?" - is being ignored by the mainstream media. With only a few weeks remaining before Americans go to the polls to elect the next President of the United States, it wouldn't do to have it known their candidate, President Obama, is receiving campaign contributions from agents representing communist China.
It's Dejà vu all over again. Back in 1997, the Washington Post reported, "A Justice Department investigation into improper political fundraising activities has uncovered evidence that the People's Republic of China sought to direct contributions from foreign sources to the Democratic National Committee before the 1996 presidential campaign." The president back then is vigorously campaigning on behalf of Obama in 2012 ... former President Bill "Bubba" Clinton.
"We really like your President [Clinton]" General Ji Shengde, head of China's military intelligence, told middleman Johnny Chung, "I will give you $300,000 U.S. ... You can give it to your president and the Democratic Party," Chung recalled in testimony before Congress. Only thirty-five thousand dollars made it to the Democratic National Committee before the matter became public. Sheepish Democrats returned the cash ... after Clinton won re-election, of course.
And China's communist officials have a soft spot in their hearts for the current occupant in the White House. According to the recent GAI report, a "major third party-owned website (Obama.com) redirects its 68% foreign traffic to a campaign donation page." The report goes on to state that Obama.com was "purchased by an Obama bundler [campaign fundraiser] in Shanghai, China with questionable business ties to state-run Chinese enterprises," and did so when Obama ran for president in 2008. Breitbart.com identifies the bundler as Robert Roche, whose China-based Acorn International gains "revenue through credit card transactions with Chinese banks," says Breitbart's Wynton Hall. Roche has visited the White House 19 times.
Media Matters, funded by left-wing billionaire George Soros, was quick to aid the faltering Obama re-election effort by dismissing the GAI report as providing "no proof." To make their point, they cite the "Obama Campaign Fact Check," which says they do not accept "donations from foreign nationals or any other ineligible individual." That should put the matter to rest, right?
Media Matters, it is worth recalling, worked closely with Attorney General Eric Holder to mitigate the political fallout resulting from the Justice Department's sale of weapons to Mexican drug cartels in Operation Fast and Furious. Mainstream media outlets continue to downplay the death and carnage resulting from Fast and Furious by describing the enterprise as a "bungled gun interdiction" operation. Media Matters can claim success in the fact that Fast and Furious has remained a forbidden topic for discussion by the Republican presidential candidate in 2012.
It appears China is hoping to influence another U.S. presidential election. Red China helped get Clinton re-elected in 1996 and appears poised to continue the tradition in 2012. They know it didn't cause much of a fuss for Clinton and his Democrats back in the 1990s. If Fast and Furious can be swept under the rug during a hotly contested election, there's no reason to assume Chinese contributions to the Chicago community organizer will raise media eyebrows.
Like I said, it's Dejà vu all over again.
