Machiavelli says that once a leader becomes an object of contempt, he’s doomed. Which is Obama’s current condition. Once you become the butt of jokes the aura of leadership is gone forever.
I have real trouble imagining that Obama/Biden can undo this situation. If my political future hinged on the performance of Joe Biden, I’d be in despair. Hell, if my political future hinged on Obama’s performance sans teleprompter, I’d be looking for the foodstamp counter.

FDR was a socialist/progressive who set the entitlement ship of dreams on its grand cruise that has led to food stamps and Obama phones. But, he was a leader who stepped up to the plate when the nation was threatened in WWII.
Truman was a political hack who rose to power through the corrupt Kansas City Pendergast machine. But, he was a leader who led us through the post WWII transition, a perilous time that destroyed Britain and her empire.
LBJ was an insider wheeler dealer with no moral foundation. But, he was a leader who stood up against the spread of communism even when he knew it would destroy him politically.
Carter and Obama are not leaders, they were and are petty little egotistical twits who took advantage of a political opportunity to advance their personal and ideological agendas. Carter has become a laughingstock. Obama will soon join him.

In the old days, it was the court jester’s duty to make fun of the king. It stopped him from doing something stupid.
In modern times, the late night talk shows have made fun of the President — unfairly at times but at others, it has stopped him from doing something stupid.
But Obama is the first ruler since — George III? that has been off limits for being made fun of.
