CEO to Workers: I May Fire You if Obama Wins
CNBC via Yahoo ^ | 10 Oct 2012 | Robert Frank

Posted on 10/10/2012 1:44:31 PM PDT by Repeat Offender

David Siegel, the owner of Westgate Resorts, sent a surprising email to his employees Monday.

David SiegelIt said that if President Barack Obama wins re-election and raises Siegel's taxes, he will have to lay off workers and downsize his company - or even shut it down.

"If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, as our current President plans, I will have no choice but to reduce the size of this company," he wrote. "Rather than grow this company I will be forced to cut back. This means fewer jobs, less benefits and certainly less opportunity for everyone."

In a version of Romney's "47 percent" remarks, Siegel added that "people like me who made all the right decisions and invested in themselves are being forced to bail out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed 42 years of my life for."

The points are ones that have often been made during this election. But what makes the letter surprising is the source.

If 0 is re-elected and this guy lays off more employees, what are the bets the MSM will still report it as "unexpected?"

I respect this guy’s efforts, but whining never comes off well.

I don’t think he’s “whining.”

His effort missive was not whining but rather a threat, a likely statement of reality. It amounts to a 60 day notice of layoff as required by law

Libs will find something racist in these remarks.

And it isn’t just small businesses...I was watching Fox news today and they have been playing a story a few times about Darden Restaurants (one of the largest restaurant companies in the US, they own Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc) is going to have to move a large percentage of their employees to part-time status so that they don’t have to provide healthcare which would be FAR too expensive under the Obamacare changes that will soon take effect.

This is what Obama and his minions didn’t think about when they strong-armed ObamaCare through the system - they may be able to force companies to provide overly expensive government back healthcare, but they CANNOT force those companies to keep their staffing the same. So who suffers? The workers that lose ALL of their insurance (and their jobs) tanks to ObamaCare.

Wasn't it also Darden that bought into the first Wookie's plea for smaller portions in order to fight obesity?

How's that hope 'n change now?

Do you really see it as whining? I’m seeing it as him telling the employees how the cow ate the cabbage!

Sowell called this the “Chess Piece Fallacy” - the left lives in it.

It’s why they think they can mandate things from the top and not have people react rationally to avoid/adjust to the mandates.

It’s why they think that if 10% tax rates produce 10T in tax income, 15% tax rates will produce 15T in tax income.

Too bad they forgot to mention Darden was a big supporter of Obama and the DNC, and actually got an Obama care waiver for 30000 of its employees.

Whinning? What in the hell have you missed. Apparently you have no idea how businesses will be hurt with King Obama and his insane taxes. Reduce profit or go negative on profit does influence business.

“Do you suppose he’s the only CEO who is thinking like this?”

I think so.

Anecdotally, I cite one of my mom’s friends. Her husband, nor semi-retired, is pretty plugged into the Minnesota business community.

Apparently, a lot of businesses (how many? - I’m not sure) in Minnesota are holding back in terms of hiring or doing much of anything until they know how the elections will shake out.

don’t know why some people call it whining when the truth is told....I have seen other freepers say the same thing when someone writes the truth and they call it whining. If I owned a business, I tell my employee’s the hard facts of life also....like you Tom I don’t call that whining

We are back in MN for two weeks visiting (moved to Wyoming from MN late last year).

Hubby knows a lot of people --- and most of the business guys he knows here in MN are saying exactly the same thing, no expansion, no hiring, nothing, until they know the fate of the election (fate of the country).

Many have said to him, if zero is reelected, they will probably close up shop and retire ---- they know that will leave many people unemployed, but they just cannot afford the new taxes & regulations.
