Russia says it will not renew arms agreement with U.S.

(Reuters) - Russia will not renew a decades-old agreement with Washington on dismantling nuclear and chemical weapons when it expires next year, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

The death of the 1991 agreement, which had been renewed twice, is the latest in a series of hitches in relations between the United States and Russia and casts doubt on the future of the much-vaunted "reset" in relations between the Cold War-era foes.

"The basis of the program is an agreement of 1991 which, by virtue of the time when it was conceived, the way it was worked out and prepared, does not meet very high standards. The agreement doesn't satisfy us, especially considering new realities," Interfax quoted him as saying. . .

Any US nuclear or chemical weapons that are scheduled to be dismantled should be put on hold for review and consequently a reversal to US weapons disarmament in light of Pooti-Poot’s decision.

[So was this announcement made before or after Turkey forced down a plane from Moscow to Syria?]

I don’t know but I would guess Turkey got the intelligence tip from the U.S. or NATO and Russia is pissed.

Romney will increase defense spending and prevent the rebirth of the Soviet Union.

Yes,an important factor in the collapse of the original USSR was that the West spent them into oblivion. That won't work today....today's USSR is awash in oil dollars...euros....pounds....yen.

In what way could this possibly help sway independent voters to Obama.

It’s like they want Obama out, too.

Reagan ran the Soviets into the ground with our economy and pressure in the arms arena. They could not compete. Now, Obama has neutered our economy and wrecked our military and Putin is ready to call the arms deal off.

Circumstantial evidence of treason??? Well, there is no doubt in my mind. . . .

Well I would not go so far to 'credit' US for the 'tip', I am not sure our 'intelligence' is itself in working order. I say this after watching the hearing today where the blame for blaming a stupid video for spontaneous demonstrations that got 4 Americans killed was placed at the door of our 'intelligence'.

Russia made out big time over this 'arms agreement with US' since 1991. I sure would like to see the price tag it cost US to help them coral all their weapons of mass destruction... It will be interesting to see if Turkey releases photos of what they found on that plane from Moscow to Syria.

I really don’t get this story.
What can the Russian hope to get an edge on?
They like 0?
They like R?

I don't think their actions are predicated on the US election.

Their interest is Russia.

They know we are weak at this point in time and, thanks to Obama, it will be some time before our financial power is restored, if ever.

If Obama wins they know they have a pisant wimp to deal with.
If Romnmey wins they know he will need to concentrate on trying to repair the economic damage Obama is leaving him.

Vlad and the Russians ain't stupid. As long as Zero will dismantle America's nukes and military unilaterally without the Russians having to give up anything, why should they?
