Romney Lead Over Obama Widens To 5 Points: IBD/TIPP

Mitt Romney widened his lead to 5 points over Barack Obama in the latest IBD/TIPP tracking poll as the full effect of the challenger's win in last week's debate became clearer.

The latest release of the poll results shows Romney at 48.7%, Obama at 43.7% and 6.1% unsure. Romney's lead was 2 in the prior day's reading.

The tracking poll is a trailing average calculated daily. The latest reading is based on data collected from Oct. 4, the day after the first presidential debate, through Oct. 9. The prior day's 2-point spread included polling done before last Wednesday's debate, in which Romney was widely seen as the victor.

That's pretty impressive if the 5 is an average, not just today, figure covering all the days since the poll.

Even if IBD had him up already by 2 before the poll - that means he's been up at an average of 3 points (over the 2) since the poll.

Evidence in the direction that it's not just bounce, but a steady new paradigm going forward. Not quite confirmation ... but evidence.

Taking that into consideration with a steady 5 (or even 3) point lead over the past 6 days ... either something is wrong with this poll ... or Ryan can puke on stage and lick it up and they’ll still win by 6.

I'm a Geotechnical Engineer (currently underemployed thanks to the Obama Administration), and that's what's called a "Circular Slope Failure". A lot of folks make the mistake of pouring more dirt or asphalt on top of the head scarp and crown cracks....all that does is cause the slope failure to get bigger. The solution is to clean up the toe, and put a berm on the other end of the rupture surface. Only then can you fix the landslide.

The Obama CREEP's is making the same mistake most Highway Departments and Departments of Public works make, and pouring more dirt on the top end (money, ads, etc.). The failures were already showing before the debate and they threw $150 million into assassinating the character of Mitt Romney. That $150 million went straight down the headscarp in 90 minutes last week.

Now the landslide is only getting bigger, and the Obama CREEP's are pouring more and more dirt on the top, and the failure surface is only getting slicker and slicker. Pretty soon, they'll be throwing dirt, rocks, trees, grannies, children, whatever they can get their hands on to stop the landslide....and that slide is only going to come out bigger and bigger on the other end .
