Unemployment Claims Data Incomplete - AP, Reuters Still Suggest That It's Positive

UPDATE: Henry Blodget at Business Insider reports that a "source, who is an analyst at the Department of Labor," has told him that "the number of California claims that were not processed totalled about 15,000-25,000."

KEYWORDS: initialclaims; joblessclaims
Within the last 20 minutes, while I researched these numbers, MSN.com pulled down a headline Reuters article that said new jobless claims came in at a 4.5 year low, and that it was very good news for Obama.

Reuters made some vague statement about "one state" showing a decline in initial claims that was unexpected.

That was it.

No explanation at all about which state, how many claims, or why.

The latest update I've seen is that California was expected to submit a "quarterly revision" of some kind, but they did not submit it.

This is all pretty much breaking news, so...

Please be careful what conclusions you make!

When the “revision” comes in the election will be over. Many folk are voting today.

Great point, Cheerio.

I did not think about that.

Since I live in a 100% vote-by-mail state, I should have.

It’s all part of the strategy. They know they have the media on their said - so there will be no reporting (and any conservative who speaks up will be ridiculed (see jack Welch last week).

So they get headline they want (all over the Internet, tonight’s newscasts, etc): Jobless claims plunge to lowest level in 4 years.

Next week they will be revised and in the headline it will make sure to mention due to a statistical glitch. Bank on it.

The BLS has become just as corrupt as the Justice Dept, if not more so - due to their impact on the day to day narrative of the election.

Yeah, sure. So the backtracking begins. Like the administration saying the attack on the Libya embassy was caused by a film only to say a month later that they never said any such thing. No wonder the liberals want to shut down the Internet.

I guess that’s one way to fix the unemployment numbers. Don’t process the claims! LOL! I love this country!!!
