ESPN Airs the Story of a Dad Who Wanted to Abort His Daughter

ESPN airs a weekly show called “E:60.” This investigative hour-long show highlights stories – often personal, touching, and sometimes tragic ones – related to sports. On October 1, ESPN posted a segment of “E:60" called “Perfect” to YouTube. “Perfect” is nothing less than a gripping, life-changing tale.

Heath White, a military man, marathon runner, and all-around success story, was suddenly faced with a choice. During his wife’s second pregnancy, Heath discovered that his new daughter would be born less than perfect, to his way of thinking. Heath admits that he pressured his wife to have an abortion, yet she bravely refused.

But the story doesn’t stop there. After Paisley was born, Heath decided to be her father. From this precious girl, he has learned what “perfection” really is. And he would undoubtedly tell you that his life would be wholly imperfect without the gift of Paisley. Once unwanted, now greatly loved, Paisley has taught her dad how perfect life can truly be when we welcome each little one.

Watch the story for yourself. It’s just under fifteen minutes long, and it will be some of the best fifteen minutes of your life. Not only does Heath’s story show the beauty of every life – originally wanted or not – but it also shows the power of a changed life. No matter the decisions we have made or have almost made, we can be made new. We can change today and value every single life.

Life itself is perfect.

I worked in a school where I knew that the father of a little girl had wanted to abort her. She wasn’t special needs in any way, he was just done having kids. Every single time I had an interaction with that precious child, I got a catch in my throat. I’m sure the daddy had a change of heart and regrets his former thinking. How could you not, looking into the eyes of this beautiful 6 year old, you can’t help but think, what if?

For anyone who ever truly has ever loved a child, it is hard to comprehend how they could make the decision to take a child’s life. For people who are still trying to love themselves, I understand.

I do a lot of therapy work with women and often the secret abortion pops up in the conversation. Often it is 40 or 50 years later till they find the wound it created in their soul. While I do not judge, I have never met a woman who did not subconsciously judge themselves for having an abortion. Never! Heck, it’s very common for women to judge themselves for miscarriages that they had no control over.

Sad part of it, I have watched women destroy loving relationships with family members and spouses, just because they knew that the other person would not approve of the abortion. It didn’t matter that the other person did not know about it. Guilt works in mysterious ways.

I have also found that the soul or spirit of the aborted child hangs around the mother, totally lost they just continue to cling.

The post-abortive Monica Lewinsky

The new tell-all book that Monica Lewinsky is currently writing will reportedly share more details on the abortion she had of the baby she says she conceived during the time in which she had an affair with President Bill Clinton....

When Lewinsky first admitted the abortion in conjunction with the 1999 book [Monica’s Story], the BBC reported on it and provided more details:

Monica Lewinsky was left deeply traumatized by having an abortion during her affair with President Clinton, her biography has revealed. The former White House intern was so depressed that she underwent lengthy therapy to try to come to terms with the termination. But she had become pregnant by another man with whom she had a relationship during the time that she and the president were lovers and she never told Mr. Clinton about her abortion....

Miss Lewinsky loved children but had wanted to wait until she was in a long-term relationship to have them. Not wanting to be a single mother, and still in love with the president, she opted for the abortion....

That was so beautiful.
What a great and wonderful thing to wake up to this morning.
My heart breaks that as a nation, we do not value God’s greatest gift to us...our babies. It hard for me to understand this because, I so wanted lots of children, and was not able to physically. I always knew instinctively how special every life was, even the ones that are not considered perfect. Maybe since I understood this...I did not need the lesson or blessing that this man has..I do not know.
When I think about how cruel and vicious people were to Sarah Palin and her son, it broke my heart, that people could be so evil and say that she should have aborted her son. As a nation, we do not deserve God’s blessings....we are a nation of killers and murderers....but maybe....just maybe...it is these little ones that invite Gods mercy on us...for their sake.

Sometimes it takes the personal experience to know what pro-lifers have known all along - that every child is precious, that every child will bring joy to your life, that you can learn something from embracing what you thought you did not want. If only parents of imperfect unborn children could see into the future, they would change their minds about aborting.

We were through having kids after 4, so I made an appointment to get “fixed”. I had the initial consult, but never followed through, and along came #5.

This time we were really done - the minivan was full. I was on the table and they put that pre-op iodine solution on me and everything shriveled up and went into hiding. (Hey doc, what are these two new lump in my throat?) The doctor wasn’t sure he could find the right thing to cut, so we postponed. Along came number 6.

God new our family needed some symmetry, We had boy, girl, then two boys, and we finished up with two girls. Now all the big ones are teenagers (except the biggest, who is no longer one.) They are awesome teenagers - my mother’s blessing/curse of I hope you have kids just like you didn’t work - but they are still teenagers. It’s nice to have two sweet little daddy’s girls around the house for a little while longer, before they turn into teen agers too.
