While the national conversation is focused on the presidential race and the nation’s poor economic health, the states continue to serve as a robust laboratory for ideas and policies. Despite the stunning growth of the federal government and the consequent take-over of many aspects of state government, business, health care and our private, daily lives, the states continue to prove that leadership and innovation can deliver game-changing reforms.
There is plenty of encouraging news from around the nation with bragging rights going to places like South Dakota, Texas, Kansas, Florida—even Pennsylvania and Michigan where governors and legislatures are working together to lower the cost of doing business in order to grow their state economies and create good jobs in the private market. These states are leading the way out of our fiscal decline.
Minnesota and Governor Dayton, however, got very different report cards this week from two leading policy organizations.
The Tax Foundation’s 2012 State Business Tax Climate Index ranked Minnesota 45th out of 50 again this year for business tax climate (looks at corporate, individual income, sales, unemployment and property taxes). In fact, Minnesota was ranked only slightly better than the notorious California, New York and New Jersey.

With dayton at the helm, the handwriting is on the wall, higher taxes are coming, especially if he gets a more accomodating legislature (which considering it is MN, it will probably happen).
This is much more than "paying our fair share", which I have heard many liberals scream about. These are crippling taxes for any individual or small business.
And the state is lying when they say that MN is not hemorraging people/businesses. We are not the only ones that left, but I'm sure it is more "good riddance" since we are conservatives (so we don't count), than them thinking about the business that was lost.
More than happy to now be in Wyoming, where personal freedom and liberty still means something.
The problem with Michigan is that we never go far enough with the right things and too far with the wrong things.

Why the voters of MN are so schizophrenic to finaly elect GOP majorities in the House and Senate while electing a clown like Mark Dayton as Governor seems totally loony.
I do blame the RINO’s in MN for this. Tom Emmer was a good GOP candidate, but the Rino’s (Durenberger, Quist, Carlson, et al) ran an independent candidate who split the conservative/moderate vote. Emmer lost by about 5,000 votes. It required a recount to verify Dayton’s win.
Yes, the voters elected GOP majorities in both the house and the senate. But the governor and secretary of state both went dfl (socialist) ?? Didn't matter how well Emmer did, the fix was in --- i think they overestimate the house & senate and couldn't do enough fraud there ,so they focused on the gov & sos. And who is the sos ? soros man who is trying his best to try to slant this one too.
Until MN has voter id (and not even sure if that will help), then fraud will continue to be huge in this state.

I left 30 years ago, by choice.. Long before the state took an exaggerated lurch to the Left and embraced liberal policy after liberal policy without regards for the costs associated or the likely results. Metro areas are hotbeds of insurrection and underemployment, so many refugees have been brought in that locals in the outlying areas now find they are threatened as the state grows but the brain trust is non-existent, sad for a state that offered a lot in the past and still is where most of my family lives to this day.
