Battleground State Maine? The Electoral Vote the Could Decide the Race
Battleground Watch ^ | Keith Backer

When you look at the competitive nature of so many Battlegrounds, the chances of an electoral tie between the two candidates is probably higher this year than at any time in the last century. What gets lightly covered though are the states where it is not “winner take all” like Maine and Nebraska who carved out an electoral votes by congressional districts where a candidate can steal the vote in a state that otherwise votes for his opponent. Barack Obama did that in Nebraska in 2008 stealing 1 electoral vote in the Omaha area. This time around Omaha looks ever more safe to vote along with the red state of Nebraska but Maine has a rogue electoral vote that may flip to Mitt Romney. Thanks for the eagle eyes of perdogg in our comments section, we see that Mitt Romney is actually leading in the 2nd Congressional district of Maine:

Maine and Vermont are the only states that allow prison inmates to vote.

Any volunteers for poll watching?

This sounds like liberal fantasy. The momentum says we are headed for a blowout of Reagan Mondale ratios.

This is the silliest election game played by the pundits.

X is the key to the election. They get extra points if they pick an x nobody else has thought of before.

Good stuff! Romney is the kind of Republican that centrist Mainers have historically supported - center right, patrician, establishment. And the Maine GOP has been reinvigotated the last few years, shaking free from the McKernan-Snowe deathgrip.

EVERYONE head to Caribou to knock on doors and solidify the swing electoral vote. Break the tie.

IIRC, W stole an electoral vote up here in one of his victories.

I remember seeing a Newsweek piece way back in 1980...the staff there had designed THREE covers for the after-election issue...one for Reagan, one for Carter, and one for a tie that would send the election to the House of Representatives.

Those last two scenarios didn’t happen of course, and I don’t think it’ll happen this time either.

I think Maine wil be icing , not the cake. The meme is from the MSM its all about Ohio...they know Obama is a goner in Florida, Va, Co and NC, They THINK Obama has a chance in Ohio, the epirical early data and common sense tell you Ohio wil be a solid 2-4% Romney win. Over at 11pm folks....you wait and see.

Seeing what passes for a Republican in Maine, this article does not reassure me.

I don’t think so...I think it was supposed to be close, but Moron Gore took it.

If you see the Drive-bys hesitating to call NH, you can go to bed. It’s over.

Maine and Vermont are the only states that allow prison inmates to vote.

It's like they said after the 1936 election: "As Maine goes, so goes Vermont."
