The laser imprinting is put on the brass during manufacturing. The first associates the shell case with the gun while the second matches the ammo with the buyer. Neither works for revolvers since they don’t throw brass. In addition, Maryland has had a shell case registry for over a decade and has yet to convict anyone using that as evidence.
