Well, I guess that if a criminal is so stupid that he can’t take a battery out of a laser or paint over the laser, he deserves to get caught. Another useless technology that only restricts law abiding citizens.

I have no idea what this reporter is talking about. “Micro stamping” usually involves putting raised numbers on the firing pin or inside the chamber so the shell casing is imprinted with those numbers. The laser imprinting is put on the brass during manufacturing. The first associates the shell case with the gun while the second matches the ammo with the buyer. Neither works for revolvers since they don’t throw brass. In addition, Maryland has had a shell case registry for over a decade and has yet to convict anyone using that as evidence.
