Also take into consideration the lack of oxygen at altitude and the numbing cold. Such desperate circumstances would cause many to do things they would otherwise never even consider. I don’t know for a fact, but I bet the deceased were stripped of any jackets, blankets, possibly even socks and shoes in an attempt to stay warm. They won’t do the deceased any good.
Would you consider wearing the clothes of a deceased person from the opposite gender if you thought it might keep you from freezing to death no matter how ridiculous it might have looked? In other circumstances, no. But in these conditions, I might.
