The problem for Obama is that the pajamas media is WAY ahead of the curve on this, and quick analysis on Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows the following:

1) The lower unemployment rate was "ginned up" by more Federal employees.
2) The data for California is distinctly missing.
3) The U6 combined unemployment/underemployment rate hasn't budged lower.

In short, the BLS "cooked the books" to make a number look better than anticipated. It should also be noted that companies involved in the transport of goods--namely UPS, FedEx, the railroad companies and trucking companies--are reporting distinct slowdowns in overall business, and in fact FedEx is cutting its workforce because of the slowdown.
