Two University of California-Berkeley students are accused of decapitating an exotic 14-year-old bird at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino's wildlife habitat in Las Vegas. * * * The two men, who said they are law students at the school, then laughed about the killing and threw the body of the bird, witnesses told police.

It used to be. However, the practice has often been for judges in these kinds of cases to reduce charges when promising law students are involved. I know of a case back in the 1950s where several Stanford law students stole a yacht in San Francisco on a lark and ran it aground. I don't remember what the official penalties were, but I know the ring leader went on to practice law with Melvin Belli.
If the perp is already an attorney, they serve their time, pay their fines, and continue to appeal to get their law licenses back.

To be so callous about the murder of a defenseless animal speaks volumes about a person’s character. Which I guess is why these idiots are enrolled in law school . . . in Berkeley.

Thank you and neither are the comments from some here and this always happens with animal cruelty stories on FR. Some come out and think its just the funniest thing they’ve ever heard or do a big “meh, who cares”.

Idk. I always found some on FR reaction to animal torture or cruelty stories to be a little strange from a site claiming to be Christian in general.
