Obama faces dilemma over gas prices as presidential campaign hits homestretch

President Obama faces a dilemma as Mitt Romney bashes him over high gasoline prices in the final weeks of their close race.

Obama must decide whether to address the attacks head-on, or stay the course on a messaging strategy that has recently been addressing prices indirectly.

Democratic strategists and other experts argue that three weeks before voters go to the polls, Obama should steer clear of big messaging or policy pivots on gas prices.

“Bringing the issue up this close to Election Day would be self-defeating at this point,” said Paul Bledsoe, an independent consultant who was a climate change aide in the Clinton White House. Dramatic action on energy appears unlikely before the election even as the campaigns tweak their closing arguments.

White House officials have said in recent months that a release from the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is an option on the table. But speculation about the prospect has dimmed in recent weeks as oil prices have fallen off their summer highs that reached around $100-per-barrel in mid-September.

Travis McGee wrote about that, and how the Feds would change the color of the money periodically to prevent hoarding.

Murphy Oil, after months and months of negotiation with the city, opened a new Walmart gas station Saturday. The price is about $.12 per gallon less than competitors down the street.

Hooray for Walmart!!

FReepers will now bitch and moan about them being pro Obama and selling Chinese gas to boot

The diesel price is about $.07 cheaper

Sorry. There is NO Dilemma. Obama’s regime has stated their desire since before ‘08 that energy costs “must skyrocket,” and they have.

dilemma, no, there is.

I live in a small town of about 25,000. Gas prices are all the same. All 25 or so stations raise or lower their prices at once. Drive by in the evening, it’s one price; drive by in the morning, it’s changed at all stations identically. Odd.

Obama keeps insisting that his policies will not increase taxes for the middle class.

Just what the hell does he think higher gas prices does not only to the middle class but to everyone who drives?

$2.00 (price of increase) times 25,000 miles driven divided by say 18 MPG equals $2777 increase in spending for EVERYONE!!!!! Tax or gas increase is still more out of our pockets.

Romney should stress this point.

So gas prices should stay high, until policy signed by Romney and a Republican majority Congress takes effect. That should take at least a year or so.

They can begin by reversing their own policies. [IMO, all contemporary politicians and constituents are commies, sucking on government for debt and tyranny.]
