In a rare example of political unity, both the Romney and Obama campaigns have expressed concern to the Commission on Presidential Debates about how the moderator of the Tuesday town hall has publicly described her role, TIME has learned. While an early October memorandum of understanding between the Obama and Romney campaigns suggests CNN’s Candy Crowley would play a limited role in the Tuesday-night session, Crowley, who is not a party to that agreement, has done a series of interviews on her network in which she has suggested she will assume a broader set of responsibilities. As Crowley put it last week, “Once the table is kind of set by the town-hall questioner, there is then time for me to say, ‘Hey, wait a second, what about X, Y, Z?’”

Interject on behalf of obama? After Biden’s disrespectful performance at the last debate, I imagine Romney won’t be taking any crap from Candy or obama.

ALL of them should be under scrutiny . . . why the hell the Stupid Party has anything to do with these 4 straight highly liberal commentators moderating a so-called debate is beyond me. What the hell is the matter with the Stupid Party?
Why don't they just say that until they have a 50-50 participation (perhaps with Rush, Hannity, Levin, Malkin) as the co-moderator or perhaps as the ONLY moderator of at least 1/2 of them, then they can go to hell.
All these things are anyway is an attempt to get the conservative debater to say or do something stupid. My God, don't they Republicans get it?
The obvious answer is to fire her, but no one will have the nerve to do that. The GOP, in particular, has a long history of playing on the enemy’s battlefield.

He also didn’t let them get away with lies at the last debate. He talked over who he had to talk over and refuted each lie point by point. Obama will go in over confident and blow it.

It will be a hall packed with Pony Tail Guys moderated by a Lib reporter. Romney will be under assault from the get-go.

Her future in the media depends on Obama winning this thing. He wins, she keeps her show, he loses she gets a gig on Al Jazzera, RT or Current TV.
She’s an umpire that owes the mob a bunch of money and they’re sitting in a van outside his house awaiting the outcome of the game. Funny thing is that the fans in the stands know this.
Goes to show that the remaining two debates are excercises in futility. Nothing new will emerge and Obama will demonstrate his frustration with the fact that he has to attend the debate in the first place.
If the story on the eve of the debate is the moderator, then it is further evidence that the debate is meaningless.
I hope Cany interjects and tries to save Obama from himself, but after Joe Biden’s foolishness, the only people tuning into the debate will be MSNBC and DU Dummies.
If we are going to play these debates like this then we should get moderators on our side. Let Limbaugh and Levin moderate 2 debates and let the Candy Crowley’s of the world moderate the other 2.

It would be hilarious if Romney would just totally ignore any of her follow ups and keep answering the question as asked by the debate participant as if Crowley didn't exist (yes I realize it would be difficult to pretend something so large didn't exist).
Romney should come out and present Crowley with a big bag of halloween candy. That will keep her quiet the whole debate.

Not only that, but the left-wingers will be sure to have their left wing plants in the audience.
If Obama pipes off about Bain, Romney should let him have it about Solyndra and its litany of brethren and how he successfully ran Bain while Obama never even ran a lemonade stand.
Since this debate is on foreign policy, be sure to beat the Benghazi drum hard and don’t forget Fast & Furious - we had to rely upon a Spanish language station to report on that disaster that resulted in the deaths of dozens of Mexicans.

She needs to be excused and put in her place a fair and honest moderator.
Does it really matter who the moderator is or what role they play? Obama is now akin to Hitler coming out of the bunker at the end of WWII to debate Eisenhower on whose leadership will be better for Germany.
I’m not a fan of Town Hall debate formats either, they lack substance imho.
Obama will do better as he’ll seemingly connect with the questioner during his responses, it will give him a place to focus rather than a Camera which seems to intimidate him.
I also think that Obama will start every answer with a hyperbolic anti-Romney statement and then try and contrast himself as the better of the two.
Finally, I’m suspect that Obama will pull a prop out of his pocket — which I believe is against the debate rules.

Well, Crowley is nothing if not broader. My wife laughs at the way she stands sideways to give her reports, no doubt thinking that it makes her look thinner.
I hope we’re all prepared to see Romney attacked by obama, Crowley, and the crowd. Expect to see the MSM declare obama the loser and expect a rash of polls showing obama ahead...at least until the next debate.

This debate will be a "townhall" with CNN's Candy Crowley advocating for Obama so expect the "War on Women," 47%, "fair share," Bain Capital, tax returns, homosexual agenda and even Romney's Mormonism to appear.It WILL be ugly for Romney. Pray he handles himself well.
Looks like I had Crowley's role defined even though I was posting 'tongue-in-cheek'.
I fully expect the additional minute of facilitated discussion will go something like this:
Crowley: Mr. President, when you said XYZ, didn't you mean 123?"
Putzident: 123, yes, Candy, 123.
Crowley: And you really meant to imply ABC, correct?
Putzident: Correct, Candy, ABC.
Crowley: Because you believe so-and-so, isn't that right?
Putzident: Absolutely, Candy, I believe so-and-so.

The image of the unrestrained arguments carrying on while the moderator is buried in ribs just tickles me for some reason. Maybe she could throw bones at them when they exceed their time...lol

Candy Crowley is one of the more partisan Dem reportes out there. Of course she’s going to try to open her fat mouth to cut off Romney when he’s on a roll and save Obama when he starts to stutter and stammer.
Remember this: Crowley’s goal at this debate is not to host a good debate. Its to do everything she can to turn this into a “turning point” so that Obama and the press can start a “comeback” narrative. She’s looking for praise from her fellow reporters as the person who turned this back around for Obama. She wants to have an interview like Katie Couric had with Sarah Palin. One that was perceived as stopping the McCain - Palin momentum.
Sadly, she’s a vegetarian.

I think unfortunately this format favors Obama. This was the debate where the troll McCain looked like an elderly hobbit next to him, hobbling around the stage.
Though Romney looks and sounds more youthful than his years, he’s got something of a stiff, old-man walk himself.
And of course Obama will have already had Crowley working hard, picking out the best questions for him.
Then there’s the fact that the MSM is especially prepped to declare Obama the big winner. That’s what will both give Obama a boost and boost the ratings for the final debate.
The only thing that works against Barry in this is the structure of short answers. In one or two minutes, he barely gets more than his first three “ah’s” in, let alone comes to any sort of conclusion. Yet, Crowley can’t obviously let him run over time, as the first two moderators did, without it mucking up the format.
