Just when we thought we may finally get one decent economic data point which even we could get excited about, we decided to look at the Non-Seasonally Adjusted September retail sales data. After all the $4.7 billion seasonal increase in headline retail sales was the second highest ever (in absolute terms, second only to 2004). Turns out our curiosity was an enthusiasm-dowsing mistake, as a number which on the surface looked good, was hardly validated by the Not-Seasonally Adjusted number, which plunged by $31.9 billion. How does this September sequential change compare to previous years? See the chart below and decide for yourselves if the massive NSA plunge in September 2012 merits the second best seasonally adjusted retail sales increase in history

Is this essentially the last retail sales number we get until Election Day?
My wife wants to buy a new stove, but I’ll be damned if we purchase any durable good that will help Obama.
These people buying cars are idiots.
Enough with calling these numbers “fudged”....they’re lies.
Are people actually buying cars, or is this government buying fleets from Government Motors and Chrysler again? They must be shipping free cars to ME countries to prop up sales.
They want to make people think the economy is getting much better but it's not. It's just political propaganda that's meant to help Obama the marxist POS. This is the October surprise.
Obama says he created 5 million jobs. problem with that is that these jobs were created in China ( zero jobs in the U.S.A. in 4 years)
Actually the number of jobs in the U.S.A was GREATER when Obama took office than Today. the population and workforce grew by 8 million . Obama has not created a single job in 4 Years. I hope Romney hits Obama with this on the debate.
.
Wait until the ObaMao cronies in Spain start tabulating the electronic votes - we’ll see the “fudge” hitting the fan big time...
I go to the local Market Basket every day, gets me out of the house, all of the Old Farts, me included are not happy with the food inflation.
When the Grey Haired Grannies are not happy someone is in trouble, I am a guy by the way.
LOL... I am waiting on a new freezer for the same reason.
I heard this news on the radio earlier. I considered sales of the iPhone 5 and back-to-school supplies and apparel. Is gasoline supposed to be included in this retail metric?
Those who are using older statistics to determine ‘a season’ need to know that Wal-Mart had their “Back to School’ stuff out IMMEDIATELY after 4th of July.
Halloween stuff has been in the stores since school started. There is already a stash of Christmas stuff visible in the store I shop at.
IOW—the ‘SEASONS’ are overlapping quite a bit.
