Money is fungible. A tax $ spent on admin saves a nontax $ for abortions
“A tax $ spent on admin saves a nontax $ for abortions”
Exactly. Overhead costs are roughly 50% of a typical MD’s practice, so even under the law, tax dollars could be used to cover half of a PP clinic’s costs and its administrators could still “technically” claim that no tax dollars were used to DIRECTLY fund abortions. Nationwide, more than one third of PP funding comes from government grants and contracts. http://www.plannedparenthood.org/files/AR08_vFinal.pdf
PP likes to say that only 3% of its services are abortions, but that’s an apples to oranges comparison. It’s like an auto mechanic saying only 3% of his services are for engine overhauls and all the rest is oil changes. The latter obviously are far less expensive than the former even though they might well constitute the lion’s share of “services” when counted numerically. I’d love to see an honest accounting of what share of PP resources actually are consumed in providing abortions. I’m guessing it’s one third to one half.
