I like the one where Cohen, in one of his other personas, interviewed Pat Buchanan about Saddam Hussein and whether or not he possessed any BLT’s. Or if Iraq was capable of building any.

Well, falling as far as he did, he might have reached the speed of light, who knows. It could be. We have to keep our minds open to the possibility.

I have always thought it curious that c/g ~= 1 year. That is to say, in Newtonian physics it would take just about a year of free fall at 1g to reach the speed of light.

Now there's a blast from the past.

Which leads us to the conclusion that he should have jumped from a little higher, doesn’t it?!

I wonder if Baumgartner met with himself before the jump.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but watching the live coverage, it was clear that he was entering some other zone. I thought to myself that it was one thing to know such a feat had been achieved, as we had learned of the first two jumps, but it was quite another to watch the attempt as it transpired, when all was in doubt. Indeed the doubts multiplied when we heard him report early on that the heater in his face visor was not functioning. My feeling is that this problem weighed heavily on him, as well it might. Nevertheless it was obvious that he would press on, as they finally announced officially. To me it seemed that his actions and thinking became sluggish as the moment approached. I imagined that he was torn between the need to attend to his check list, and his ultimate need to retreat within himself to make himself ready. At any rate, it was excruciating to watch, and I was on pins and needles. Ultimately, I think we can say it really was up to his guardian angels, and thank goodness for them.

Well, with t = c/g, we have 1/2 g t2 = 1/2 c2/g = 1/2 c (c/g) ~= 1/2 light-year. So yeah, a little higher.

I guess that explains why his capsule seemed bigger on the inside.

Very astute! Now think of the moon. Think of being on the moon in such a capsule, as indeed it was.

Impossible, only a Plymouth Satellite can travel faster than the speed of light.

Not true, not true. I was in the process of a light speed breaking attempt in 1975 with a ‘62 Dodge Dart. A flat foiled me at Warp .89 .....

...and we were out of Old Style and the ashtrays were full.

I stand firmly by my prediction that, due to the Democratic party and the Department of Education, “Idiocracy” will be the most prophetic item ever written by man. On our current trajectory, we should arrive there in about 4 years.

Well of course. Everyone knows that. It he fell all the way from the sun to earth in 4 minutes, he had to be traveling faster than light! Light takes 8 minutes.

It must be the “Republican War on Science” that makes MSNBC so ignorant.

I saw a ‘62 Dodge Dart also do it once at the drag strip.

“Sunday, Sunday... Raceway, Raceway Park!”
