In response to a question concerning high gas prices, President Obama explained that gas prices were low when he took office in January 2009 "because the economy was on the verge of collapse":

Yeah I laughed so hard when the moron said that..so what is he saying..that if the economy is supposedly good people wont have any issue paying 10 bucks a gallon for gas? Its already over 5 bucks a gallon here in SoCal

Yah, that’s the post I was looking for. My version of your point is
that if $1.86/gal was a symtom that the economy was going in the
dumper 4yrs ago then the $4.77/gal I paid driving up the San Joaquin
Valley last Sunday is proof I’m swimming in tall cotton.

Thank you President B freakin O.

Obama is INTENTIONALLY LYING!

Read what some people said that caused the drop in Oil Prices in Oct 2008 and again on Dec 23, 2008.
No one wanted to SAY that oil prices dropped because the House passes bill allowing offshore drilling, Sep 17, 2008, but that had a lot to do with it.

Compare that information to the chart below.
To really understand fuel prices, you have to take a look at which party had control of the House and the Senate.
The Democrats took control of both the House and the Senate in 2006.

The National Debt, In One Chart

So I say AGAIN

Believe it or not, most hollow-headed voters will believe the “gas was $1.85/gal because we were on the verge of collapse” LIE. We are closer to collapse NOW than in 2008. No one in their right mind looks back at 2008 as worse than now. But they WILL believe the black Marxist Muslim gay illegal alien’s LIE. Go figure.

Gas had been steady and at that price level for about 6 years!

The six years prior to 2009 were hardly the low and steady gasoline price of the time he took office.

Then why was it 80-some cents a gallon in the late 90s when Slick Willie supposedly was working miracles w/ the economy?

Clintoon was the recipient of the Reagan/Bush I policies that won the Cold War and (temporarily) straightened out the Middle East—also the tech/Inernet boom that the Bent One had nothing to do with—but he sure takes credit for the 90s economy—he did nothing—although actually he tried to derail it.

But back to gas—it was 79 cents/gal in NC in early 1999.

I guess we were really in trouble in the 50’s when gas was around $.25.

There were plenty of missed opportunities for Mitt. He could have countered with, “Mr. President, you yourself were stating on a television interview that you would like to see gas at $7-$8 a gallon. Those were your words Mr. President. Are you stating on the record that the $4 a gallon gas will double yet again if you were re-elected a second term, Mr. President?”
