Before you mock the Swiss
(1) A quote from the article:

(2) I’d encourage you to read John McPhee’s book about the the Swiss army, including mandatory reserve duty for all male citiens and nuclear bomb shelters in their mountains. Per his publishers, the Israeli military copied much of the Swiss military efforts when establishing their Army. The book is La Place de la Concorde Suisse.

I wouldn’t mock them. We went in one of their bunker storage areas on a trip a few years ago. Serious business.
What the Swiss army does really isn’t of much import to me and what’s the army going to do? Tell the wealthy tourists they can’t ski anymore? Seize the Willy Wonka chocolate factory?
Maybe they can lob pastries at each other over the mountains.
