Christian College Head Dinesh D'Souza Faces Scrutiny Over Relationship With Woman

Dinesh D'Souza, president of The King's College and co-producer of the hit documentary "2016: Obama's America," is facing scrutiny for his relationship with a woman whom he has introduced to some as his fiancée. D'Souza is currently married but has filed for divorce.

The Indian American, who was raised Catholic and now identifies himself as a nondenominational Christian, stayed at a hotel with Denise Odie Joseph II during an apologetics conference last month in South Carolina, according to World Magazine.

D'Souza told conference organizer Alex McFarland that nothing happened that night though they shared the same hotel room, the magazine reported.

Though still married to his wife of 20 years, Dixie, D'Souza had also introduced the young woman as his fiancée to a few people at the two-day conference that took place at First Baptist North Church.

D'Souza filed for divorce from Dixie on Oct. 4.

The Board of Trustees of The King's College released a statement Tuesday, stating that they were aware of "admitted difficulties" in D'Souza's marriage. But there were other details in the magazine story that the board was not aware of, prompting them to hold a "special session" with the college president to learn about the situation.

The board will again meet this week to continue its review and investigation.

"Until we complete this internal process we do not intend to publicly address any matters related to Mr. D'Souza and his relationship with the College," the board stated. "In the meantime, be assured we take seriously our charge to teach a compelling worldview rooted in the Bible and expect all of our leaders to model Christian character and integrity in their public and private lives. Our primary concern will always be for our students and we promise appropriate communication with them as quickly as we can do so responsibly."

The King's College head told World on Monday that he is suspending his engagement to Joseph. In her Facebook profile, Joseph lists among her "favorites" D'Souza, Ayn Rand, Pat Buchanan, Sen. Rand Paul and RonPaul.com.

D'Souza was named president of The King's College in 2010. He is the author of The Roots of Obama's Rage (2010) and most recently Obama's America. His film "2016," which is based on his books, is the second highest-grossing political documentary in U.S. box office history.

I disagree with your definition of gossip.

It is not gossip to expose a public figure for adultery, and to explain why someone is suspended as head of a Christian college.

It is not our job to cover other people’s sins for them.

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” Eph. 5:11

Those who prefer to do their evil in darkness count on the misunderstanding of what gossip is to help cover the evil they do.

Gossip is malicious speech - untrue - and designed for harm. Detailing the reasons for D’Souza’s suspension meets none of these criteria.

Who was it, Jerry Reed, maybe, who wrote the song, containing the line? “He’s middle-aged crazy; trying to prove he still CAN!”

D’Sousa is merely emulating, to a much lesser degree, one of his heros, King David.....who reportedly had an eye for the ladies. Who’s going to throw the first stone?

I didn’t say D’souza is an idiot, but he is a pretentious man.

He offers us little to nothing that we need, so I suggest we ignore D’Souza.

I think God threw that stone.

II Samuel 11:27: “After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the Lord.”

David knew what he did was wrong, condemning another person for sins comparable to his own, not realizing he was condemning himself with his own words:

II Samuel 12:5-6: “David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die! He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.’”

Even after David repented of his sin, God brought dire consequences upon him in punishment:

II Samuel 12:9-12: “Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’ This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.’”

When we don't discipline ourselves, God will discipline us — and his discipline is usually far more severe.

I’m guessing that Mr. D’Souza, in his university and academic circles, had Christians around him who knew about and approved of his affair with the woman he was not married to.

They looked at the marriage as being over, even though it was not officially over in the secular legal department of life.

They did not see sex outside of marriage as a big deal. And, some probably did not want to “cast stones” to correct or challenge him. And some did not want to lose their jobs.

Mr. D’Souza deceived himself with rationalizations and the Christians around him abetted his fall.

This is the story of modern Christian American life.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid you're quite likely right.

Here are some further comments by Rev. Tim Bayly, a PCA minister who pastors a particularly aggressive church; his father turned down the presidency of King’s College years ago.

Let’s just say Rev. Bayly is a lot more fiery than I’m being in this situation. He’s blasting not only D’Souza but evangelicals in general for letting this kind of gross wickedness happen:

If so, we as evangelicals need to get our own house in order. On this point, the Roman Catholics are better than too many of us evangelicals in defending marriage.

You are absolutely right......but I was referring to D’Sousa. David repented, but still paid. We don’t know if D’Sousa has, or will. A possible indicator might be if something happens in his life which would indicate a “stone thrown by the Lord.”

But D’Sousa has already lost his gig at King’s College....and I have a hunch his book futures may be somewhat diminished. However, this sort of thing never hurt Slick Willie, at least not financially. All accounts will be settled in eternity. THAT is a lead pipe cinch!
