A judge set bail today at $100,000 each for three teen-age girls charged as adults with the armed robbery of two University of Chicago students this week near the South Side campus, authorities said.

A gun brandished by a fourth suspect, a 14-year-old girl facing juvenile charges, discharged while the girl was pistol-whipping a 28-year-old female student early Monday, but no one was shot, police said. The woman was accompanied by another student, a 22-year-old man.

Well, at least two people got a quick education .... they probably learned not to travel to Chicago’s South side without an armed escort or armed like a swat team member! In fact, if they were reasonably intelligent, they would have learned to stay away from Chicago and Norther Illinois if they valued their lives.

The south side of Chicago is a frightening place. That area around the Science and Industry Museum at the train station is scary during the day. I lived near Detroit and I think the South side of Chicago is more dangerous based on the population density of a violent , unstable , population that does not value life and is akin to barbarians. I predict these areas will continue to get worse and resemble South Africa with high murder and rape rates being the norm. We are losing the war to the ghetto culture because of political correctness and are on a path to National suicide .

Hyde Park IS south. The U of Chicago Hyde Park neighborhood is a middle class Black and liberal white enclave surrounded by very dangerous Black neighborhoods. Hyde Park is Obama's neighborhood. Was Rev Wright's neighborhood. Is Bill Ayers's neighborhood. Don't let your kids go to the U of Chicago.

They go to college there. They LIVE on the south side! The Hyde Park area, while not exactly Greenwich, CT, also isn't exactly Bedford-Stuyvesant or Calumet City. The big problem was that they were on a less traveled side street after night. They should stick to the main college/Hyde Park thoroughfares like 55th, 57th, 60th, Woodlawn, Ellis or take the free bus service. During the day that area should be fine.

One year I lived on Maryland avenue and 58th in a sublet, and my housemates and I were among the few melanin deprived folks there. I was also poor, so nothing was worth stealing except maybe my Coleco Adam computer. The teen locals did come up trick or treating on Halloween (only one wanted something, a bit of a joke). I required him to be in costume for the "treat". He put on one glove and said he was Michael Jackson. Okay, close enough. Then I gave him a baloney sandwich. In general we got along fine, though having almost nothing in common.

Back during the JFK administration, I could walk from 3300 S State to the Loop and back in daytime, although I wouldn't have risked it at night.

A dorm-mate would take the steel leg off his desk and wrap the narrow end with tape for a grip, and then venture off campus with like-minded colleagues at night. I don't think he ever used it, though.
