Every once in a while you run into something so beautiful, it’s hard to put your thoughts into words.

As long as there are young men like these, our nation will survive.

Stories like this give me hope for this upcoming generation. May they ignore the idiocies of Baby Boomers (my generation), Gen X’ers, Gen Y’ers, etc. and carve out their own niche.

This kid will be jumped upon by numerous colleges and universities with full scholarships.....and not just for his significant football skills. He has character to spare. That counts....a lot.

Only in Ohio...? Let us hope that this sort of thing is nation-wide. We here in Ohio are proud of Michael Ferns, and we are all also proud of Logan Thompson, whose late father was so honored.

May we also be so proud of our candidates in this election cycle...of Josh Mandel, of Romney/Ryan, and of each and every conservative candidate for any office here in Ohio, State or Federal office.

Voting is more than a right...Voting is an obligation...it is manditory that we vote to keep this country free, to keep this country under the law as defined by the Constitution...The law of We The FREE People of the united States of America.

November 6 is the first day of the rest of our lives. Vote to keep us free...and support the candidates of your choice in your respective areas with whatever that support might be...money, time, signs in your yard...Support the Conservitive candidates in your respective areas!

I’m going to be unpopular on this thread. If the circumstances of the game allowed for coach to substitute the freshman running back Logan Thompson in during the regular course of play to score a touchdown, that would be wonderful. But to deliberately step out of bounds to set up the play seems to me like another form of hot-dogging.

The touchdown was scored in the 4th quarter of a 56-27 blowout of their rival by St. Clairsville. The stunt was planned by the St. Clairsville coach; it wasn’t a spontaneous act of kindness by the senior Fern.

In a sport like football, where every player is working hard on every play, it disrespects the opponent to say it’s so easy to score a touchdown that we can let the freshman go the last few inches. It disrespects the freshman Logan Thompson, who evidently is a talented athlete in his own right, to score his first touchdown under contrived circumstance. And it calls attention to the coach and senior Fern, much more surely than if Fern had just run the ball into the end zone.

I’m going to be in the minority on this thread, but it seems to me that this was more a selfish act of poor sportsmanship by the coach of St. Clairsville to draw attention to himself against an overmatched opponent, than a spontaneous act of kindness.

What a touching story, thank you!

It’s obvious that this act meant a great deal to this grieving young man and he also much have felt very loved and supported by his teammates. It was a privilege to read this article.
