What would 'Black Music Awards' be without a little playful gun fight.

What would 'Black Music Awards' be without a little playful gun fight.

In my home city, every year there is a very large convention called Black Expo. The locals have come to learn that you stay out of downtown during this time as there are routinely several shootings while the convention is in town (this past year was an exception I think). I suspect there are only a comparitive few that are actually legally permitted to carry handguns.

Now, contrast that against the Moto GP event that also includes 10s of thousands of bikers from all over the nation, where a large part of downtown is closed to all automobile traffic. To walk around and look at all (and there are 4 packed blocks of them) the motorcycles is pretty cool. It gets crowded and the crowd "appears" rough in the biker gang sense. HOWEVER, this past year I identified no fewer than 5 other people carrying holstered pistols (mostly concealed but either printed or exposed when sitting on bikes, mounting, dissmounting or setting a bike on a dyno machine). I only noticed the latter 4 after I noticed one and wondered how many others and started to keep an eye out. I suspect there were hundreds if not thousands of others including myself armed and concealed. I am not aware of one reported incident and I have to proudly say, despite the leather, tattoos, pearcings and sometimes chains, it was a very polite crowd. I didn't even see fights, though there were many drunks and some scantily clad young women in the crowd. No debachery, nudity or obvious crime of any sort.

I'll go back down there every year that they keep comming back. Next year, I might take my kids.
