President Obama declares parts of Florida a disaster area for damage in Tropical Storm Isaac
St. Petersburg - Tampa Bay Times ^ | October 19, 2012 | staff

President Obama on Thursday declared 11 Florida counties a disaster area for damage sustained in August from Tropical Storm Isaac. The declaration makes federal funding available to state and local governments.

In September, the Federal Emergency Management Agency refused Gov. Rick Scott's request for a presidential declaration of disaster for damages caused by Isaac.

FEMA director Craig Fugate... basically argued that Florida could handle the costs on its own.

....It was unclear late Thursday why the decision about the declaration was reversed...

Sept 22, 2012 - Feds turn tables on Florida Gov. Rick Scott, deny storm money

"TALLAHASSEE — Time after time since taking office, Gov. Rick Scott has boasted of rejecting billions of dollars from the federal government. Now, Washington has turned the tables, shutting down Scott's plea for financial aid in a move that almost instantly took on political tones.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency refused Scott's request for a presidential declaration of disaster for damages caused by Tropical Storm Isaac, declining to provide $26.9 million in aid to hard-hit counties.

Scott moved this week to appeal the decision, but not before the issue was cast in a political light, highlighting Florida's importance in the presidential election and the rocky relationship between Washington and the Sunshine State........

.....The rejection is the latest dust-up in a tenuous relationship between Scott and the federal government.

Shortly after coming into office, Scott rejected more than $2 billion in federal funds aimed at building a high-speed rail line. Obama criticized Scott for the snub, saying he thought it was "wrong."

Scott helped support the U.S. Supreme Court challenge to Obama's federal health care reform this year. When the Supreme Court upheld most of the law in June, Scott said Florida would not accept billions of federal dollars to expand Florida's Medicaid rolls......."

Polling on Fla shows him down?

What a crock that he has the ability to do this.

Hahahahaha...unclear to who, the third graders on Sesame Street? They probably just thought “what a pandering ahole” and turned away, wondering when they will get a crack at the kind of money the Disney kids get.

The Obama administration has been leaning on Texas too.

Their punishment of Texas will change under his watch.

Gee, no one will think he’s using their taxes to buy votes or anything ‘offensive’ like that.

Here's something else that may be missed. A friend of mine who was a manager of a hotel that closed was on unemployment and went into federal emergency unemployment.

He had told me that he was surprised that they only went by your word that you actually are looking for a job. And that has been the process until last week.

Beginning October 1, if you apply online you must send in screen shots to prove that you applied online and there are several other ropes to jump through, ropes that my friend said he'd have understood if they were in place all along. But emergency unemployment ends for EVERYBODY at the end of december. My friend's theory is that the Obama administration is trying hard to get people off unemployment which would be a good thing if it were for the right reason. He's thinking it's to lower the unemployment rate even more by november's election.

Hey, cut him some slack. If I was Obama and reading the latest polls, I'd think Florida is a "disaster area" for me too. He's watching those 29 electoral votes drift further and further away from him. ;-)

I’m trying to decide if this news gets out there if maybe it would hurt him more than it would help him.

? This is meant to be big news in Florida. Nothing buys votes like free money from the government. They must be either trying to close the deal or seeing it slip away and playing their last trump card.

I don’t think he’s going to like what happens to all the money going to Chicago and the rest of Illinois after January 19th if Romney beats him. If there’s any justice, Romney should appoint a very stereotypical set of Texans (who would be very competent) to camp out and return the favors to Illinois regarding mineral rights, mining, industry, etc., etc.

The Obama earthquake, shaking our nation apart, needs to end.

This “gesture” will not change anything. It’s insulting.

Voters have had a bellyful of his lies and destruction.

Will the Canadian Pipeline happen next??

His answer to why he didn't sign it over was unique...."We have enough pipeline to circle the earth"....

How stupid can you be.
