Two-line proposed amendment could have huge effect on gun control laws

JEFFERSON, La. -- It is all about the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, in the fight over Amendment No. 2 to the state constitution.

"Amendment No. 2 is a simple amendment. It's just two lines," said George Peterson of American Freedom and Supply in Jefferson Parish.

In its two sentences, Amendment No. 2 calls the right to bear arms "fundamental" and adds that any restrictions on that right would be subject to "strict scrutiny."

Those two words could have a major legal impact.

"It would not only prevent the legislature from enacting new gun laws that would be for the public's protection, it could also potentially be used to strike down laws, for example, that don't allow people to bring guns on college campuses, or into grocery stores or bars or churches," said Eyewitness News Political Analyst Clancy DuBos.

That means more than 80 current gun laws could be more easily challenged in court. The Bureau of Governmental Research opposes the amendment, calling it "alarming" and a public safety issue.

It is a public safety issue. Law abiding citizens rights should not be infringed.

Liberals don’t believe in God-given rights.

They believe the more regulations that exist, the better off we are.

That’s why they want to proscribe private gun ownership. A free man is a danger to them.

Try this simple test. Would you apply the same notion, the same wording to the 1st Amendment? If the answer is no, then why in the x!4$@:*! would you want to apply it to the 2nd! The right has been identified as one which the government cannot infringe upon. I know that hands off notion drives big government liberals and fascists crazy, but too bad.

“The Bureau of Governmental Research”

Who the hell are they and why do they hide behind a name like that?

“The Bureau of Governmental Research”

And if these clowns want to do some “Research” why don’t they look into the backgrounds of the ‘judges’ in New Orleans and the FACT that they will not lock up people with dark skin, regardless of the crime. They simply refuse to do that.

We don’t need “Strict Scrutiny” in the law, we all ready have “shall not be infringed.”

Unless they're statists, whose god is the state...
