Enough Already with the Women-Get-Paid-Less Nonsense
The New American ^ | 19 October 2012 | Selwyn Duke

The intersex wage-gap question asked at the last presidential debate once again thrust the issue of equal pay for women into the headlines. And since Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are both vying for women — who vote in greater numbers than men do — both campaigns have been saying all the “right” things. Obama has touted his signing of the Lily Ledbetter Act, while the Republicans have pointed out that not only does the liberal network MSNBC pay its female employees less, so does, ironically, the Obama administration (by the way, Obama did the same in his office when he was a senator). Yet the truth on women’s pay is something neither candidate dare say.

Women aren’t given less.

They earn less.

The reality is that far from being a result of discrimination, the intersex wage gap — 72 cents on a man’s dollar, or 77 cents, or … well, it depends on whom you listen to — is solely due to the sexes’ different lifestyle and career choices. Columnist Carrie Lukas explained this in 2007, writing:

Gotta give Romney kudos for his remark in 2nd “debate”—

He started out by saying sometimes women need time off to attend to family matters.

This was veiled and beautifully so. He sounded supportive of women but didn’t let the occasion pass to insert ONE of the reasons women don’t always make as much as men in the workplace.

Women are probably more apt than men to take time off for these reasons.

He made an important point in a subtle way.

And yet, women ignore perhaps one of the most successful business-woman of all time. Oprah had a successful TV show, manages a TV network (Oxygen), and runs a company that makes “made for TV” movies.

She opted NOT to marry, NOT to raise a family - and plunged herself utterly and completely into the world of business.

And, BTW - she’s black.

There is no glass ceiling - whether you are black, or a woman.

In life you make choices, and these choices have consequences.

When many of these women want to be paid the same as men, they mean they want the same pay as those who are higher up the employment ladder. I used to work in law firms with women who wanted to make the same money as the attorneys. Couldn’t make these chippies understand that they don’t have the education, experience and expertise to be paid the same as an attorney. These women were fed t baloney that comes from socialist-communists disguised as women’s liberators.

I never needed liberating. I made good money for the job I did. If I wanted more, I could have finished college and graduated from law school. I made a choice. These broads want to make bad choices, then rely on government to ensure they make more than they rightly earn.

Maybe men should spend more time on the phone at work, or show up late, leave early and take extended lunch breaks and claim it’s “for the kids”!

I have seen unequal pay. A previous female mgr was dating a peer, lower level, lower seniority, and he made more. It happens.

Before we were married and had kids, I was my husband's boss. I handed out the paychecks. I definitely made more. Then we were married, had kids and I wanted to and was happy to stay home for a while. He makes more now, but I'm still the boss!!! :)

“Couldn’t make these chippies understand that they don’t have the education, experience and expertise to be paid the same as an attorney.”

I see that with a lot of workers (of all shapes, sizes, colors, and genders); some think that if they’ve been the receptionist for five years they should be paid more than a physicist hired two months ago. It is bizarre, and they view themselves as victims.

One generalization I have observed is that when women are working the same jobs as men, with the same background, as a rule they seem to work between 1/2 hour to one hour less PER DAY.

Desperation City. Anything to convince the uninformed female or minority or youthful voter to think they’re getting screwed over.

Am I just crazy (please be kind) or didn’t the Ledbetter Act have to do with the amount of time involved in filing a lawsuit for discrimination?

There have been laws in place for years regarding sex, age and disability discimination. In fact if anything...employers have to walk such a fine line it’s pretty insane.

women walk into a job fresh out of college and expect to make the same wage as a man that has been there for five or ten years and it just don't work that way...

Are we suppose to assume that all men get equal pay?
