:-) I remember that about the Bandshell, too. I also played a number of concerts there in high school and a few summers with the Daytona Beach Municipal Band. Very strange acoustics in that place.

I was about 4-5 yrs. old during WWII. Daytona Beach was jam-packed with military. Little kids learned to tell the difference between WAVEs and WACs, sailors and soldiers. These young men and women would gather under that tower on the rightside of the bandshell and jitterbug the night away. I thought it was the greatest thing ever.

On Sunday afternoon, jalopies would race on the beach...to the rightside of the picture posted on #71. The bandshell was the north turn, and the clock tower, or maybe the pier, was the south turn. When ever a racer got stuck in the sand, the crowd would push and lift it out and get it going again.
