I suspect Romney’s problem is still part of the hangover from the union referendum battle there. Kasich has done well but took a big hit from that fight that he hasn’t fully recovered from. Ohio is one of the union’s last strongholds. They won’t let it go without a massive fight.

Yeah, I agree. The GOP screw ups in Ohio in the Taft years, plus the big vote this year is bound to turn some off.

I also think the campaign was tailor built to work in that region. The ‘Bin Laden is Dead, GM is alive’ is a tagline for the union Dems and Indys in the auto union states. That doesn’t have much impact in FL or VA, but might be able to sway some union folks there.

I think Ohio is also laging a little becuase so much resrouce is being dumped there by the Obama campaign. We have seen it here in FL, and the race was close until the last 10 days. Romney’s focus on the last few weeks set in and he took a good lead. I hope we see him at least even, if not a point or two ahead going into Nov 6th. I still believe these polls using 2008 as a starting point are incorrect, but at the same time, the month-long early voting is an aid to the other side. If the national polls are bending out direction the rest of the way, I believe we are going to pick up IA, WI, NM, and at least one other surprise state that may make Ohio meaningless anyway. I still want to win it and don’t want to count on those other states. They have let us down before.
