I suspect that much better results from rock salt would be obtained by using the ‘miner’s trick’, of creating a solid plug of paraffin and rock salt. This keeps the rock salt together, reducing dispersion, and the greater mass gives better momentum.

Forget the rock salt and just reload the shell w/ a paraffin and bird shot mixture. There are youtube videos (search youtube.com for "wax shotgun shells") of the procedure and the results. The wax holds the shot together until impact and then the shot charge behaves like pre-fragmented projectile, it disperses like a liquid under pressure. Very bad Ju-Ju!

I'm guessing it would also work with small washers (smaller than your choke ID!).
