Harry Reid is GOP’s top boogeyman in race for Senate
By DAVID CATANESE | 10/17/12 12:10 AM EDT

Imagine a scenario in which Democrats hold the U.S. Senate and Harry Reid lacks the votes to remain majority leader.

As ludicrous as it sounds, listen to a handful of Democratic Senate candidates and you might begin to believe it.

At least four Democratic hopefuls have expressed varying degrees of reservation about supporting the senior senator from Nevada to head their caucus next year. It’s a leading indicator of how much of a lightning rod Reid has become in the scramble for the Senate, particularly in close contests in red states where Democrats are swimming upstream.

If anything the last four years should have taught us is that the Democrats all work in concert towards their socialist agenda. If they boot Harry it’s only to further their cause.

One of the surprises of this campaign has been lack of coupling the very polarizing and unpopular Democratic legislative leadership (Pelosi and Reid) with the Democratic presidential team (Obama and Biden).

You could have some fun coupling images of obstructionist Reid (aka SourPuss) with Fearless missing-in-action Leader Obama and the zombie-like grins of Biden and Pelosi are perfect for Halloween. I'm a little disappointed that GOP and pro-GOP political advertisers haven't worked the angle harder.

If my pet theory is correct, Reid probably doesn’t care if he is he’s the Senate Majority (or Minority) Leader come 2013.

The way I figure it, Reid was the perfect choice to play the hatchetman for Obama’s re-election campaign. Reid’s 72, and the conventional wisdom has been that his re-election in 2010 was probably the last time he will run for office. Also, Reid’s retirement is surely well-secured by this point in his career, and he’s probably been promised a thing or two from Obama’s team in exchange for his attacks on Mitt Romney to boot. So, you have a well-known senior party figure who no longer has to worry about what the papers or the voters think, and is free to play the heavy without political consequence. Anything else (i.e. retaining a leadership role after the election) is just icing on the cake.

Just my two cents, of course.

Look at Harry Reid’s 6 years of running this country.
Look at how America has fallen under him and his Democrat lapdog Senators!
No, wait- Politico doesn’t want you doing that! Not during the election!

Hey, this election’s Dem candidates got nothing to do with Harry Reid. No connection whatsoever.
Politico is just awful, awful.

“I’m a little disappointed that GOP and pro-GOP political advertisers haven’t worked the angle harder. “

It’s nearly unfathomable to me.

The dramatic change in America’s fortune since Reid and Pelosi took over is so obvious.
But the media is heavily invested in hiding that, I guess it’s more promising for the Party to just ‘move on’ instead of fighting them.

Balderdash! Dems Politics is a brutish business. The Democratic Senators saw what happened when Gabby Giffords and Heath Shuler tried to oust Pelosi. Shuler probably wears a burka now.
Reid will retire when he wants.
