Romney picks up newspaper endorsements Posted by CNN's Dana Davidsen
(CNN) Republican nominee Mitt Romney picked up a number of newspaper endorsements Sunday for his 2012 bid for the White House - a couple of them in major battleground states.
The Tampa Tribune and The Columbus Dispatch, in the key swing states of Florida and Ohio, recommended voting for the Republican candidate. The Fort Worth, Texas, Star-Telegram, The Arizona Republic, and the Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) Tribune-Review also announced their support for Romney on Sunday.
The Dispatch endorsement of the GOP candidate came a day after another major Ohio newspaper threw its support behind President Barack Obama. On Saturday, Ohio's largest newspaper, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, endorsed the Democratic incumbent, as it did for then-Sen. Obama in 2008.
The split between the two Ohio papers underscores the closeness of the race in the Buckeye State.
The same is true in Florida. Last week the Orlando Sentinel announced its support of Romney, despite backing Obama in 2008. On Saturday, however, the Sunshine State's largest paper, the Tampa Bay Times, wrote that it would back Obama, as it did in 2008.
Recent polls in both states suggest the race is all tied up.

Whatever CNN. Romney is up by atleast 5 in FL. OH is close.
Sorry to say this, but the people who back Obama, after all that they’ve been able to witness,...... must really HATE THIS COUNTRY!!!
I cancelled my Los Angeles Times subscription thirty years ago. It was leftist tripe back then, and it only got worse, something I hadn’t thought possible.
At any rate, papers like the Tampa Bay Times should be shunned. Cut your subscription, and if you advertise in it, cut that too. (obviously FReepers won’t have to by now)
Buy some late night television spots. Tell the paper to go straight where it’s trying to lead you.
The Tennessean endorsed Romney. There’s been pig droppings on my windshield ever since!
Those words from the Tampa paper are rathet cogent for a media org
The publisher must have told the managing editor who’s the boss that day
I agree that these endorsements have almost NO effect - the average voter who isn’t committed by now has no clue and likely doesn’t read newspapers anyway!
Regardless I found it interesting that the Fort Worth Star-Telegram endorsed Romney on the editorial page, then printed an op-ed on the facing page for Obama!! Kind of trying to have their cake and eat it too... and not make their 5 subscribers mad at the same time!!
Also, they endorsed Sadler against Rep. Tea Party favorite Cruz for Tx Senator.... Sadler...in a word, not a chance!! This is still Texas after all!! Adam Sandler would have a better chance, here!
The most important endorsements this year won’t come from newspapers, they’ll come from the pulpits of churches.
Seldom if ever have America’s religious leaders so strongly opposed a president’s policies, for example, Obama’s support for same-sex marriage and ObamaCare’s repudiation of the freedom-of-religion rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
While most people subscribe to newspapers primarily for the sports pages and coupons, those who attend church regularly only do so because they value the opinions of their priests and ministers — most of whom will have a lot to say about the importance of NOT voting for a candidate, Obama, who refuses to support the sanctity of human life, or of traditional marriage, or of the Constitution.
FYI, Zuckerman was a big Obama supporter, but lately, at every opportunity, he slams Obama. As in:

Cleveland Plain Dealer goes for obama again.
Very lib paper. Most black people are going for obama. Most of the papers are sold in the suburbs to libs. They are big on Ohio Politifact, Obama’s fact checker. Few conservatives can stand the paper, so they don’t have to worry about offending them. They quit getting it long ago.
Their online version stinks. Lousy search function and slow to react to real news.
