I just received this email from the Romney Campaign:

Hi Friend - I am contacting you to see if you would be interested in participating in a unique volunteer opportunity this Election Day.

I will be heading up the national command center on November 6th and I am looking for talented volunteers to help out in key states across the country.

With less than three weeks to go, I am making a final push to bring on a few more supporters to help with this project.

Volunteers will be at the polling place from open to close on November 6th. These volunteers will be relaying critical information in real time, back to our national command center here in Boston.

If you're interested - just fill out the form at www.mittromney.com/orca by midnight tonight, October 21st.

Thanks,

dc

I signed up. In comments I said I could help work in Pennsylvania as my efforts would be fruitless in Maryland where I live.

Liberty Township - between Dayton and Cincinnati. Signed up and went through phone and online training last week. Looks like two objectives
1) Update who’s voted so phone calls can be targeted to likely Romney voters who haven’t actually voted, and
2) Report “irregularities” - more of a by-product

If I’m assigned within Butler County, OH, concern will probably be more (1), high Republican area and goal will be getting out the vote, don’t anticipate much fraud will be tried here.

How is it to be determined who’s voted? Are you supposed to keep a count of how many people come to vote and report that in periodically? Then they compare those numbers with ‘08?

As I mentioned, I’m in a high % GOP area so they’d want the numbers of voters here to be high - higher than in ‘08.

Sounds like fun, but we’ll be in Lima, Peru on election week.

They start with a complete voter list brought up to date for who’s voted early / by absentee. Using smartphone, then update by individual that comes in - they provide the list (hard copy if no smartphone) and then update through the day. This is exact - not sampling or estimating. Poll watchers are allowed to listen as the voter identifies him/her self and can periodically inspect the roles.
