the race is close because Thompson came out of a bruising primary with zero cash, whereas Baldwin had an open field.
Fortunately, Thompson is finding his footing and is being assisted by Romney and the Walker machine.
WI is a key state for Romney. If he wins it, he can lose OH and only needs to win ONE other true toss-up state to defeat Obama.
I’ve been watching the ads being run and in the last month there has been a sustained effort to make her look like a far left extremist (which she most certainly is)...maybe that is having an effect - have a look - one right after another:
