The last two Americans who died had managed to survive six hours into the attack.

How long any of them lasted is irrelevant. No one could have known who died when or in which compound at the time. The only question is "why was nothing done to try to help them?" Only ONE MAN had the authority to send a rescue team onto foreign soil. We know what his choice was.
